Wow, am I dreaming? For free, for real?o_O Honestly speaking, I'd not have minded had MS charged a nominal fee, say, $10 for a license key for the upgrade.

Since windows XP i never paid a Windows OS, i mean on a legal way, just using the M$'s offer.

There was no way around. With windows 10 keys retailing at few dollars, whoever has a working computer with win10 would not pay anything for 11. At least not for the first 8-10 bumpy rough months.
If they want to share in a PR a significant installation base first weeks, they have to give it for free.

I never went that down path with the earlier upgrades. So how does this work. let's say I have a key for w10 and upgrade to w11.
How do I go about reinstalling the OS? first w10 the online upgrade again or how.

One can wonder why a multi-billion would "give, offer" a new OS for free.
And before someone asks, Linux is free, one pays with donations (nobody's forcing you), time and your willingness to learn.
Regarding Microsoft, the adagio "Never trust the Greeks, even when they bring presents" just fits.
Leaving the animosity aside, for normal users, it's a great opportunity, and hope that it will be better.
As usual, Let's wait and see.

4 Desktops + 2 Laptops inhouse so free upgrade is money saved ๐
True but I have a tiny hope that it will be less bumpy than Win10. Thou that hope is very tiny I must admit ๐
Have one I can test on first (mostly e-mail, media and Folding@home) before trying on others and
the one I do work on.
@NesteaZen
Most likely there is a easy upgrade option unless you want a fresh install.
If reinstalling and you already upgraded before + connected to you Microsoft account
you can fresh install Windows 11 and just log in to verify it.
Just like when reinstalling Windows 10 now. ๐

Yeah I realized after reply sorry about that. Edited post above right after.

Same W10 pro key for W11 pro? That sounds good.

MS doesn't charge for the upgrade, for the same reason they don't charge for the upgrade to win10. Although I highly doubt that it will be an upgrade to anything else than the basic home version.
Personally I will wait a couple of release to iron out biggest bugs, but maybe it is similar enough to win10 so that there will be a smooth transition.

No need to charge since like all big coporations, they sell your data, what you view, what you do on the internet.
Pretty much like Android, iOS.
There is nothing for free like the say says!

The moment I manage to make World of Tank run in Linux (Manjaro) windows are dead to me.
I play games and using Manjaro for years now for everything except WOT :/
Vulkan games like X4 Foundations also run 20% faster on same machine compared to windows!!!!

I wonder when can we get our hands on the Chinese or North Korean Government version of Windows 11?! /sarcasm ... maybe...
