I thought the lighting looked good in this. Does anyone know how far away we are from Unreal 4 Engine games? And any pointers on what kind of hardware will be needed to max out some of the visuals on those games?

The lighting looked good and natural, but the artist could have spent more time on the glass material.

Are any games actually going to use this engine? Seems everyone is going FrostBite anymore.

Everyone? Who exactly? Other than DICE that is.

many upcoming ea games using frostbite engine and mantle together. there's a list somewhere.

Ambient occlusion still sucks. It's good for games, but high-quality commercial visualization needs more suspension of disbelief.

If the UE 4 editor is anything like UDK, the post processing is very tweakable. There are parameters you can change in the post processing chain of the level. It's just that the default ones suck and nobody seems to put much thought into them 🙄

List shows DA Inquisition, SW Battlefront and Mirrors Edge 2 (besides BF4 and NFS Rivals), nothing else.

But Frostbite engine is also used in upcoming Mass Effect 4 🙂

Meh, just give us U4E games already.. This 2 year teasing is getting pathetic. 🙄

Yes it looks more outdated every day.

This was probably the worst looking demo for a new engine Ive seen. Bland colours, epically low textures (maybe youtube compression), and most it looked incredibly blocky. Sure its just a demo but this should in no way be used to show off a new graphics engine.

Seems like a pretty damn good was to display the strengths of a new engine to me, use simple colours and textures so you don't detract from the elements you are actually want people to look at . i.e. the lighting.

*WOOOSH* That was the sound of the point of the video flying over your head. It's an architectural visualisation, meant to sell a house concept. It is not a demo of UE 4. Selected people already have the UE 4 SDK, some people on the UDK forums got it for free.

Frostbite is an EA specific engine. Only games studios under publishing deals with EA have access to it. Other games engines are as follows: Snowdrop = Ubisoft http://youtu.be/UXeH9OqygzI (imho better than UE4) CryEngine = non publisher specific http://youtu.be/vF1zjDSqPoo (Star Citizen uses it, which makes it even cooler than it already is) Unity = non publisher specific http://unity3d.com/ (poor mans UE4, some might say) And soon there will be Source2 http://www.gametrailers.com/side-mission/68960/leaked-slides-reveal-left-4-dead-2-built-with-source-2 EA essentially paid for the development cost of FB3 in return for giving DICE tons of cash and of course a $100m marketing budget for BF4, not that they have got this cash back from purchases yet. IMHO FB3 is at the top for graphics and of course sound, with CE3 and SD tied for second, with UE4 third.

Nice house 🙂

Still doesn't look natural to me. Really i think they need to take a real house, setup cameras to record what really happens for 24 hours or so. And then recreate the exact same house, as closely, and when they can make it so you can't tell the difference. Then i'll be truly impressed. Until then, the best i can say is; it was a nice try.
