I imagine there must be a substantial heat increase with 64 lanes.
the chipset isn't serving 64 lanes though 😱 88 total, 64+24 lanes. Since this 88 is combined from chipset and cpu, 16 lanes total are already lost because 8 from each forms the communication channel of the CPU<>TRX40 So we're left with 72 available (less after hard-wired pcie devices are considered) 56 from the CPU and 16 from the chipset.

FYI, that was a jab at @nizzen. He always talks about having "the best" and how he likes having the latest technology (regardless of the price or use). So, does he want the latest and greatest in PCIe technology or is he willing to settle for less? 😉
He has a TR3 system. I don’t get what you are getting at. Hell he may jump to TR40 if the performance is there. He has stated quite a few times performance is his goal. In that mindset PCI4 is just a gimmick at this juncture. As I pointed out I have yet to see a gen 4 NVMe drive out perform a 970 pro/evo. For the record the chipset fan does not bother me.

He was clearly making fun of the fan. It may not bother you (or me), but it's obvious that he doesn't like it. I'd like to see him buy a board after he ridicules it. 😉
