That what I was thinking too and it has to remain free and open source being as it built on fork ver of OBS and Electron but they can add add-on and sell additional services on top of it

This could be a good thing A good thing about it would be with the additional funding it could help OBS it self. Heck it was only matter of time because Logitech and Streamlabs were partners for 2 years and nothing changed then as far as OBS being free and it will never will. The only thing that will change at the end of the day is as I said in my sentence that the additional funding will help them develop the software even further.

Streamlabs is not just fork of OBS, it's one of their features but there is whole big ecosystem for streamers, to monetize streams, to build community and interact with viewers. It's used by many big streamers with great cash flow and huge communities, it has potential as streaming is more popular every year.

Yep... they might make it so it only works correctly with Logitech devices/cameras/equipment and nerfs competitor cameras and equipment... can't see any other reason to want to buy and control it.

People are confused. Streamlabs is a site that is used for stream notifications. OBS is software, not made by streamlabs, but by a chap named Jim Bailey.
Then there's StreamlOBS, OBS with streamlabs integration. A collaboration if you will.
But again, OBS is not made by Streamlabs.
Seems that most people are only aware of StreamlOBS, not the original and two very separate and different origins and their applications

Streamlabs OBS isn't OBS. Logitech did not buy OBS, since obviously, no one can effectively do that, and to assume that logitech just spews out 89 million dollars and doesn't know what they are getting, makes no sense.

Well this will go down back to is eSports really a sport? playing games, getting sponsors, and making money etc... because if you think about it people playing games and it being televised has been out there for a very long long time.
People making gameplay videos has also been out there for a while, many people nowadays when they want to buy a game they look at "reviews", youtube videos, or live streams etc.. its made my decision for buying a game and whatnot.
Hell this is not far off from people making youtube videos and doing reviews and getting sponsored, how many videos on youtube have you watched someone reviewing a hardware tech or game. Only difference is one is live and one is prerecorded/edited. So changing, tweaking stuff on the fly does require some skill imo.
Now the touchy subject, while I do agree that youngsters look or want a quick ride to success and money, it still is a lot of hard work. When you first start out and you're a nobody what do you first do? get a gaming PC whether purchase or built... download software.. tweak it for your camera and mic.. knowing your internet bandwidth and setting it up correctly. Not the same as some hollywood actor/actresses that got famous from just knowing people. There are many that have day jobs and look at streaming for extra money or even gain self confidence since you're talking to an audience where you normally wouldnt. Gaming skills come into play when you're streaming yourself winning matches and competition because people dont watch other people losing.. unless you of course look at the grey side of streaming with *cough* females *cough* but thats another topic or just trolls in general. Many people get burned out or bummed out when they see that streaming cant get them easy cash or they invested a lot of "gaming" PCs or setups and they're not as popular etc... and companies will take advantage of that and advertise it for anyone can do it.
A ton of gaming peripherals and gaming centered computer, laptops phones, and technology has come out through people streaming and creating a gaming community. Just maybe a decade back people look at you funny when you talk about gaming PCs or gaming in general, now its widely accepted since the younger generations make it natural or are born with it.
Whats funny is there are some people that do stream and they ask that question, why are you guys watching me and giving me donations or subscribing to me lol, in the end its all entertainment just like something you would do when you pay of tv, netflix, movie, gaming etc.. its merely content creation for people to watch.
In the end of the day its still "work" because to make money you have to play games consistently or stream your life for hours and hours even 24-48 hours for some people doing the stretch, hell nowadays its hard enough for me to play a game for more than 1-2 hours, granted I'm stationed overseas but still if you told me I can make money for playing games for half-full days I would say maybe... not? lol.
TL;DR what is considered "work" really? let them learn the hard way, dont quit your day job when you first start. If you take off then boom! you're good. People have made twitch, mixer, youtube partners and still have to grind when they find out you have to do things or think of things to maintain those viewers/membership/donations.
For those new to the streaming scene there is a software called OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) thats "open" source lol and free for everyone to use. Streamlabs created things like plugins, overlays, seamless integration for donations, animations, chat etc.. What they did with StreamlabsOBS is made it all in one so in a way its easy mode, while some people have to add overlays and different artwork, SOBS will have ones free or ready to use. Logitech didnt buy the OBS software per say they bought the company that integrated all the stuff you wont normally have to do after or accompanying OBS. Many of these gaming sponsors particularly peripherals are aiming for gamers and streamers to be the go to so they might do things like this lol.

It's OBS in a shiny wrapper with gifs, Logitech own a brand name and shiny wrapper, they don't have any ownership of the OBS core.

Btw, I am using OBS Studio. And Streaming via AMD's driver feature works OK too, even while basic.

Thankyou. Hopefully now that people see this in black and white they will get the message. As I stated above;Streamlabs and OBS are completely separate things. StreamlOBS is what is causing the confusion.
Sorry Hilbert but as you can see above, you are incorrect. Streamlabs is not OBS Software. You should rectify this article to avoid any further confusion.
Wow...what an ignorant and vitriolic statement. I tried streaming and it wasn't for me. However, there are plenty of people who make a living, a very good living at that, doing it.
What sort of work do you do? Perhaps you're an idiot for working for someone...while others are making a living playing games for a living. Hmmm...sounds like a case of jealousy to me.
