Just an aside, can people sell their virtual goods?

Look at it this way: there were people stupid enough to buy the several thousand $ ships, there will be people paying 30 - 40$ for a virtual motorcycle...

Yes. In accordance to devs (at least when I followed the project years ago) everything that is on sale, while the game is in development, you will be able to earn by yourself inside the game without buying it for real cash.

You might have answered this, but to clarify: Person (a) spends RL cash on virtual item. Person (a) puts item up for sale. Person (b) spends RL cash on virtual item. Person (a) receives RL cash from the sale of virtual item. Person (b) then 'owns' virtual item. Simple transaction between two people. Is that what you meant? That's permissible?

nothing official regarding that unfortunately. People are using a shady 'grey market' without any control whatsoever. https://www.reddit.com/r/Starcitizen_trades/

There are micro-transaction that cost close to 30$ or even more on game like WOW who are released since a decade and make Billions $. Yes they are released and yes SC + SQ42 (solo)is a crowdfunded project hence rely exclusively on pledges. Remember: nothing beside basic starter package is required. Everything can be obtainable in game with Credits. And the project is not light years to be released.... Squadron 42 (solo) do have a planned Beta end of Q2 2020, in 5 quarters. All SQ42 assets will then be thrown into Star Citizen (MMO) Worst scam ever with +500 devs and a company valued at twice the total amount of pledges end of 2018 by Independent Auditors

The game has never claimed to be free to play, the game wouldn't even exist without player support. Try to understand my point of view: a lot of games from the major studios have highly disappointed me recently, there's been a lot of cash grab on overused franchise, little creativity, poor support over time. It was especially true if you look a couple years back to 2016-2017, as there's been some positive improvement since then: Ubisoft completely turned the table over with R6S and the new AC games, EA Games had their reality check with Battlefront drama and terrible BF5 marketing of microtransaction/cosmetic in their AAA 60$ games. With Star Citizen you have a studio trying something different, where the money is from the player (and not the publisher) and is going mostly to developement instead of 50/50 developement/marketing. They have no game release date, but a roadmap of the features and content they're planning for the next year. Fundings goes to Star Citizen (MMO space game) and Squadron 42 (solo game with amazing performance capture with amazing cast like Gary Oldman). I have no doubt they've wasted money along the way, and no doubt they have organization issues. They're a large studio that hasn't shipped any games and has everything to prove, and yet is bigger than some other more experienced studios like Massive entertainment (which started working on The Division after SC. original kickstarter and shipped TD1&2 since then), Respawn studio (which were barely 50employee at the time of original SC kickstarter and put out TitanFall 1&2)...

I do get your point really, but tbh not all ships/vehicles are obtainable in game, and if you wanna have fun with the game in its current state you have to spend more money.

Technically light years is to measure distances, not time :P

I am getting more and more fascinated by Star Citizen's money earning tactics of this developer, they have a new 'micro'-transaction available.
Well Hilbert I didn't see you bat an eye when Activision/Blizzard, Bethesda, Ubisoft, EA milk you with digital slot machines for years. Guess how much money you will spend if you are "unlucky". Even an idiot can understand that you will be unlucky, because REASONS (mathematics). At least Star Citizen will give you what you paid for. Tesla is doing exactly the same with Model 3s and other products and it sells like hot cakes, because people want change and it feels really good to interfere with the system and all these corporate scumbags that milk you for decades, while giving you the same year after year.

You clearly missed the point of this thread / Star Citizen criticism, be it justified or not. But digital slot machines are not the topic here at all, sorry. But yeah, good move to call the news reporter biased because he covers a game you apparently want to defend. 🙄

Just to add some fuel on the fire, microtransaction is now the new target of the fraud service in many country (EU and world...).

I think that has more to do with loot boxes which is technically gambling. I don't think microtransactions are always evil and it's unlikely they'll ever be made illegal.

Some people in this thread need to go look up the definition of the word scam. Star Citizen says up front what you are buying and what the purpose is, To support the development of the game. You don't like it? Thats cool don't buy it. If you dont like what they're doing and think its wrong or somehow illegal then go file a complaint.

It would be pretty cool to jump that bike out the back of a spaceship from orbit onto a planet....

you are wrong. When you look at something 10 light years away from you, WHEN is that which you are looking at?
