Hah, after all the bull**** about the servers being absolutely necessary for simcity to work and the blatant lies maxis tried to sell, i'd say it's about damn time someone pulled the plug on them. EA's not the only one to blame here.

Yeah so weird that EA would buy Maxis and then, over time, bring more and more of Maxis into EA proper.
So weird, so unexpected; funny how you guys are surprised.

And EA closes another studio they acquired. What a surprise. 😉

Everything EA touches turns to p00. How do they stay in business?

I am still in mourning of what they have done with the cnc franchise. As the caretaker of franchieses they are woefully bad. I wont give WestWood the accolades of some.. They made a few dog games on their own(emperor). But their CNC games were all top notch and then ea in the latest generals tried to make a ripoff of starcraft and then the budget went overboard as the complaints rolled in and the game never saw light of day(seriously reading from devs on the new cancelled cnc game they were making a SC clone as if nobody there knew anything about cnc which is all on EA).

Fans thought process.
EA thought process
- We want an updated version of a classic game we loved
- The fans of this game want an updated version of a game plus a whole load of new features they have no interest in and didn't ask for
- We didn't ask for those features, they sound rubbish, I won't buy if you include them
No you just have to get used to them, these new features make the game much much better and will hide the compromises we have made to the game to include them
- They released the game and didn't give me what I wanted
We released the game and gave them exactly the game we thought they wanted, why is it not selling, why are our forums full of people complaining at us.
- We didn't buy this game because of the stuff we didn't ask for, if you give us the game we asked for we would buy it
Oh the fans don't like this kind of game any more lets close the studio

My wife is actually quite happy about this, she wasn't a fan of the new Sim City and thought Maxis ruined Sims 4 and it would of preferred it was left to The Sims Studio people instead.
I don't play either game, so don't overly care about the closure of the studio.

I care, not because I like Sims or I liked the recent SimCity game, but simply because Maxis have taken the fall because of poorly considered features the series' fans didn't want, implemented because EA wanted DRM and thought the new features should be there, and didn't give them the necessary time to make sure everything was watertight.
EA should be to blame for this, Maxis shouldn't have taken the fall; that said Maxis fault for getting in bed with them in the first place.
Hopefully these experiences will begin to stop studios thinking with thier budgets vs common sense.
Redemption80
Maxis made the game(s) and have been coming up with stupid DRM solutions for many years now.
It's only Maxis games that seem to have these issues, so why are people thinking Maxis weren't to blame?

I haven't bought a single EA game since Simcity 5 and at this rate it doesn't seem like I ever will again.
Octopuss
I decided not to touch anything smelling of EA after the BF4 launch debacle myself.

Never cared for this studio but EA has destroyed too many good game franchises C&C and dungeon keeper were my favorites

EA Strikes again.
Give it a few years and we'll see a thread like this about Bioware.
The last EA game I was silly enough to buy was DA:I out of a love for that studio, I really should have known better considering their last three releases.
Redemption80
I doubt it, last i heard DA:I was Bioware's most successful launch ever.

EA have had successful launches from their publishers in the past and still shut the studios down. Regardless, there's no solid statistics on how well the game really sold as EA never actually released any figures. I imagine if it had sold particularly well they'd be more specific. However, we do know that it debuted in the UK at number 5 on the sales charts
