Worst part is that people will pay for it.

I think you'd need to be mad to even consider buying a scalped a 1st gen product (Even if it is likely to be highly polished). I've got a reservation for one but not even 100% sure i'll buy it when able. I reckon plenty of people will not buy them in the end and there will be loads floating around.

I don't understand, on the steam website it says the order availability is still Q1 2022 and you can still pre-order without a problem...

It's not people it's sheep... No sheep = no scalper. As now they can't do money with GPU anymore (oversaturated, price down, seller crying because they have it in the... you know lol) They switch to something else on high demand, in here is on Dacia Sandero Stepway, Dacia is short on component (as mercedes btw) and can't produce enough. So they bought nearly all 2nd hands and stock from Dacia and sell them well over the constructor's price... Then enter the sheep, with his mind full of "obey, you can't change anything", "amazon, will save us all, consume", "you must buy it, whatever the price is", that buy it at scalper's price. The question is: Why buy a low cost car, at a price of the upper segment even more when there aviability there? buy upper segment entry level for that price... But in the end the scalper get his money.

I newer understood such small screens, have never played anything on my phone either. I have a 34" monitor, and I am starting to feel it is small..? 😀

Put RetroArch on it. Best emulation handheld ever 😛 (Well, if you're willing to pay that much for an emulation handheld, that is.)

I've been following handheld gaming PC developments for quite a few years now, and tbh the pricing for the Steam Deck is actually very good compared to the competition. Considering the audience here at Guru3d, I'm not surprised that there's not much interest in it, but, it's another crucial step in this segment. For me, I've pre-ordered (only costs £4). The only thing I would've liked to see is a thunderbolt3/4 port, but, its good enough for the price.

Oh, and also remember. In the unlikely event that this thing takes over the world (yeah, right) then PC ports of games might start to get better optimized. No more "it runs at 60FPS here on our 3090s, so ship it."

And i thought 550$ is too much for a handheld.

These scalping practices are just disgusting. Online scalping at more than MSRP really needs to be regulated.

Apparently, it depends on the region you're in, as Valve seems to have allotted Steam Decks per region. In the EU and UK, the reservations for all three variants if placed at the time of this writing are still on target for Q1 2022, while in the US it seems it's Q2 2022 for the cheaper two and Q3 2022 for the 512GB model. My reservation got through sometime in the first hour of availability (it took a lot of clicking), and I'm also having a Q1 2022 estimated delivery date. I'm looking forward to be able to play my PC games on the go, in bed, by the pool, etc. like I can do with Switch games now. 🙂

I understand that if it was unique but there are literally many devices like the deck already in the market.

The easiest way to stop bots is to make all orders by phone only, this goes with nearly all products. At least you can then confirm over the phone and the bots don't buy everything in 1 second.

At this price point? (Well, if you could get one at MSRP right now, of course. Scalpers and all.) ARM-based ones are cheaper, yes. But x86-based ones seem too expensive.
