Samsung Display was pushing Samsung Electronics to buy them QD-OLED for a couple years at least, only to give them a 30% yield (or worse) when they do go for it. OK-AY ! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

"Samsung Electronics' premium TV lineup for next year has been tentatively decided with 3 million mini-LED Neo QLED TVs and 2 million OLED TVs. Here, the OLED TV is the sum of the quantum dot (QD)-OLED being developed by Samsung Display and the white (W)-OLED quantity being mass-produced by LG Display." As you can clearly read. QD-OLED is being produced by Samsung Display, the panel manufacturer. More info here about QD-OLED issues at Samsung Display. http://www.thelec.net/news/articleView.html?idxno=3811

Yes, Samsung Electronics is purchasing LG WOLEDs, because Samsung Display is getting out of the LCD business, and Samsung Electronics needs a backup plan in case Samsung Display can't deliver on QD-OLED in time. Samsung Display is developing QD-OLEDs that it will sell to Samsung Electronics and other companies like Sony. Now if your article suggested that Samsung Display were purchasing LG W-OLED's, then there might be a story here, but even that wouldn't make any sense as QD-OLED is using blue emitters for an RGB layout. You and others here are somehow suggesting that Samsung is taking LG WOLED panels, that use 4 white emitters per pixel, and turning them into a 3 sub-pixel design with blue emitters? That's not how any of this works. There are people who obsess over this stuff like it's their job. That info is available for you to read. Like I mentioned before, check out the OLED technology advancement thread at AVSforum.

From what I can decipher from the muddy information at hand, Samsung has a subsidiary company, Samsung Display. They contract out to HB Solutions to make their QD-OlED panels. HB Solutions was using a proprietary ink jet, which was causing all the production problems and low yield, from Samsung's subsidiary company Semes. Semes, is the fab and display equipment making subsidiary of Samsung Electronics. Semes blames Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, which assisted in the development of the ink jet equipment, for the equipmentโ€™s lackluster performance. Now Samsung display is bringing in an American company Kateeva and using their ink jet equipment. Samsung display will be adding their software to Kateeva's ink jet equipment for HB Solutions to use in making the panels for them. https://media4.giphy.com/media/cJWys1JFgqtYXvvaGa/200w.gif?cid=ecf05e479nnzqklf26sjlz6ej2kc1xphahrhd7htl6nksr8d&rid=200w.gif&ct=ghttps://media1.giphy.com/media/sRb7yNtTJAtZS/200w.gif?cid=ecf05e47buvf7eej9hdzi0tekrhuqss9sjhg765eqjguj1fe&rid=200w.gif&ct=g

I don't see where the article suggests that QD-OLED's are sourced from LG.
