Hmmm those Vulkan benches look weird imho.

Don't forget that Vulkan came out of the old AMD Mantle API. So there might be architectural advantages codified into the Vulkan standard that benefit AMD's architectural model. This is not the case with OpenCL, which came out of a development at Apple (ironic, because Apple doesn't use OpenCL at all anymore). Also, since Vulkan is not that wide spread in use, it might also be that NVIDIA's driver team doesn't optimize for it as well as they do for DirectX.

It does use the same AD103 as 4080, just a bit more cut-down. But with the year of extra optimisation i would not be surprised. I'd expect it to be somewhere around 5-10% slower and 4080 super to be around the same percentage faster than the original 4080.

I've seen several benchmark leaks and the 4070TiS did indeed look to be within the margin of error of the 4080 in multiple games, but not all. Obviously, leaks could have been faked. Wouldn't be the first time.

Not surprising considering how close this card is compared to the 4080, and the later is also going to be replaced by it`s Super version. More curious is the radio silence coming from AMD...

Getting pretty stoked for the 4070 ti super!

Nvidia GPUs are generally more performant using Vulkan than they are using DirectX 12. Such is the usually the opposite for AMD GPUs.

Can I ask something off-topic? Why in Microsoft Edge when I chose "Vulkan" doesn't work, especially on videos? I've got a mere 3060 12GB but to this day, I've never used Vulkan and at some point, I'd really like to try it out.

Because video is still decoded via a D3D11/12 API in Edge/Chromium. And Google might be a bitch when it comes to supporting (new and yet more or less experimental) Vulkan video API.

As always they were caught sleeping. They will continue to pay some youtube channels and reviewers to say how cheap and great their cards are (yes, Nvidia does that too), "wait for the next AMD card because it will rock" and at some point they will release some cards that will fade in the unknown. - something like their new Ryzen CPU's - everybody is talking about how great is AM 5 because AMD is committed to this platform for years but less and less are talking about those first AM 5 CPU's. I bought an 7950X for my wife - biggest mistake in my life - crashes, reboots, slow performance, space heater like Intel so it was back to 3950X for her. This is the first decent card for the price in years from Nvidia...I wonder what made them do it...surely not competition.

Wafer prices got cheaper/ higher yields so Nvidia reduces the asking prices while keeping margins the same

Hm, I didn't know that - thanks!

The Super series will add a lot of pressure on AMD that has nothing but a price drop left in the tank. (further cheapening the brand).

Oh yes, "cheapening the brand" is such a great concern to everyone with that insane profit margin both vendors have. Vendors lower prices: Normal people are happy. AMD lowers prices: Butthurt Nvidia fanboys crap over AMD...

dont forget same people defending the price being high. as much as I would like to stay with Nvidia the 7800xt sounds like much better deal seeing FSR/DLSS/FG are all features i dont really care for $499 much easier pill to swallow. and IF i so choose to use such tech i do it with all Dx9-11 games

I stated the obvious but you had to run with it and over the cliff you went, again. Go get some fresh air. Try to see things for what they are and stop being rabid about things that don't exist.

In this case i have to agree with Auer, if AMD is always cutting their prices, then people will always expect lower prices and won`t pay more for AMD cards, resulting in the cheapening of the brand. This is bad for AMD and further reinforces the feeling that many have that AMD is nothing more than the low cost/budget alternative to those who can`t buy a Nvidia card... That`s why i think that instead of direct price cuts AMD should offer more value to their cards, by offering free games or a free year of game pass. They should also talk about the fact that both main consoles, Xbox and PS5, are both base on AMD graphics, and tell that because of this PC games are optimized for AMD GPUs. This is not entirely true but sometimes we have to exaggerate a little...

Doesn't work like that. For years, they couldn't compete with the fastest Nvidia GPUs. Didn't stop them from asking for similar money for RDNA2 cards. Also, they make de facto real-market price cuts all the time with CPUs and they still sell enough of them when they are newly introduced. You are also ignoring that 7900 XT was totally overpriced vs. 7800 XT, at least in Europe.

If nvidia lowered the price on a regular 4070 to $449 AMD would be bucked....

Jokes aside we might see 7800XT at 449$ soon for real. That would be great.
