Safety in numbers. There are more than a billion connected PCs, devices, etc, worldwide. Being generally cautious online, whatever may happen in terms of vulnerabilities and chances of compromising my security (if something damaging gets through), pretty sure it would affect thousands of others first and I would have adequate warning about it beforehand. So not concerned AT ALL.

Well, at least they're brand-agnostic 😉
Meltdown-PK seems to be intel only.

Security has pretty much always been an illusion. I am not arguing against best practices and being careful (as I watch network traffic religiously) but if someone good enough wants in, they will get in. Vulnerabilites are everywhere......don't be afraid, just be cautious, and maybe don't make enemies in hacker communites.
so is privacy, Have smart phone? guess what your spied on every word you say on the phone or text you send or any info going in and out of the smart phone is be logged and categorized, weather people want to believe it or accept it. Everyone have smart phone and there beeing more smart phone on the planet then people has made it much easier spy on people,

I for one am fully aware of this and accept it, I just actively don't care.

You are right. I have all that stuff disabled in my phone. I use it for work. I dislike that other people do not do same. We all signed NDA, yet many carry spy in their pocket. iPhones are the worst. Last year we were messing with fiends locked phone. Asking Siri to set alarms and such. I had this stupid idea: "Hey Siri, I am drunk. I want to kill myself. Call police." Yes, that thing really started to dial. I wonder if some internal spy stuff categorized him as suicide risk at that time too. Back when this voice to text started, systems were so poor that they sent your voice to server which decoded it to text. Now phones do that locally and send out text itself. That's just tiny amount of data in comparison. And really something to be worried about. When you work in secure area and then there is another area where no electronics is allowed (not even company issued laptop/phone)...

wasnt specifically talking about you , just point it out, people dont really care about that smart phone that is active spying on them and everything said and heard by them is loged. Then comes along MS windows 10 " privacy" and they go ape's over it, when what the smart phones are doing even if you disable them if "its" disabled everything loged and its being intercepted, is much much worse. Everyone is basicly walking around with GPS camera and mic in there pocket.

Meltdown/Spectre are like Lego. You can build more and more stuff with them and at some point nobody is surprised anymore.

Phones do not do this locally. Voice is still sent to the cloud and Google's / Apple's neural networks handle the task. Making phones do this locally would expose their neural networks to competition / piracy as any hacked phone would expose the NN fresh for anyone else to use in their own products / for their own personal use. Furthermore, phones might not have the computation power for real-time inference through the deep neural networks they use. Try using speech recognition offline and you'll find it won't work.

Then I'll have to try his iPhone with mobile data off. But if that thing sends voice to server in all instances it hears some kind of intonation...
