Just purchased one. Thanks for the review, Hilbert!

buhehe:

What pisses me off is how they (mis)used the "x90". There used to be a marked difference between x80 and x90. e.g. the R9 290 was 20-30% above a 280x - so the suffix was a clear distinction of performance... not this pathetic +6%

It just seems like such a waste of time and resources (high wattage & price) and I can't even begin to understand why they couldn't just wait and go all in on 7nm. I can only imagine what would happen if you were to tweak your fan profile to make it less noisy (as shown in the review) in which case it would probably melt.

Yea, for the worse, it seems

Seems weak. It is equal to my overclocked gpu. 1060 refresh with gddr5x is gonna beat it hard..
It runs at 8Gbps gddr5x compared to 1060 9Gbps gddr5 variants. It wont be any faster at all.

Gotta say anyone who got a 290x/390x years ago still have a decent card! specially if they just OC it a bit, seems to do as good as the 590 stock

390x is a beast!

Similar coolers on RX 580 vs. RX 590 in Norway, the price is about the same. Infact Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 8GB is 30$ more expensive then the "new" Nitro+ RX 590, so maybe things are not as dire? This is the price situation in Norway/Denmark, and probably Sweden as well so here the RX 590 is a no brainer if you already are looking at RX580 8gb πŸ˜› https://prisguiden.no/produkt/sapphire-radeon-rx-580-nitro-8gb-295384 https://prisguiden.no/produkt/MV4xMTE0ODE5

I'm happy to run rings round this with my laptop...

What AMD needs are cards that can beat the 2080 and 2080ti so that nGreedia has to lower their prices. It’d be very beneficial to all consumers

still needs more power than a 1080 while being below a 1070. i would rather get a 980ti cheap, or if 1440/up and /or higher IQ settings the 1070 for +60$ more is the better deal.
You forget that you get a 180$ worth yet-to-release game bundle for the AMD one, and a 40-50$ one for NV (Monster Hunter: World). Even for RX 570, 580 and Vega, not only RX 590.

https://lookimg.com/images/2018/05/21/hOwxW.jpg I already have 2 PowerColor RX580 Red Devil Golden Sample in Crossfire . RX590 is not better than what I already have except 100mhz core speed which isnt worth upgrading. I run 1425mhz right now stock.

So, around 20% or so performance increase over my RX470....that is also a noisy pos.... Guess I'll wait to see what comes next year.

"Try to imagine what would have happened if AMD kicked back in its value prospect. If this was a 199 ~ 219 USD card, it would have been a Christmas smash hit under that Christmas tree." Let's us hope for it on Christmas sale πŸ˜€ IMO 239€ is possible. But for now is good GPU and You can substract 90€ easy in games from the price, so in truth this is 189.99€ GPU with almost Fury performance ! IMO it's quite a feat for this rather small chip. GJ RED Team & HH for review.

Game bundles are failures. Pure anticonsumer tactics and false advertising to alleviate outrageous pricing. I can buy cheaper any game with its own deluxe edition, not any forced promotion from gpus, mobos, monitors, etc. 1070 has a better temp/price/watt/performance ratio. Polaris is a disastrous improvement, at least Vega not great but delivered extraordinary performance jump from fury. My old 390x overclocked have much more pixel fillrate and memory bandwidth than 590. It only loses in texture fillrate. One step forward two steps backwards. Four years and counting for Amd to deliver some serious improvements. Even 2014's r9 290x 8gb variant ghz edition overclocked can easily battle 590 rx. Lmao. Nuff said. Anyway great review HH as always. Cheers!

I wonder if the memory would go higher with extended limits, might be worth investigating.

So it comes with Devil May Cry 5, The Division 2 and Resident Evil 2 remake. Lovely.

Thanks for the review HH. It seems old 390x/480x tech just keeps rocking as it is almost FURY in some game cases. I just get excited on what a new process can bring but that power consumption is just WTF... Same as my old 6950 CFX unlocked... best for winter use... πŸ˜€

Well, there is value in that card. That's Core clock and its untapped potential in form of memory limitation. Proper memory tweaking should increase performance of that card a lot. @warlord : Do not judge memory bandwidth by bus width and clock. Use OCLmembench to see result which can be compared. Values in GPUz are theoretical maximum.
