Nvidia still makes a profit selling everything, so why this theatre?

I mean in theory there's a threshold where mining is no longer profitable. Yeah they are selling everything, but let's say 80% are to gamers 20% are to miners - enabling this might make it 85% to gamers 15% to miners - still 100% of cards sold but the distribution is different because some miners no longer see the card as valuable or see a return on investment given a set period of time.

More PR words. maybe if the just stop my gpu able to do the mining in first place from hardware stand point it might work. as it stands all this nothing more word by PR to make it look like they care, in reality they dont there going to bank hard with all this they are even using actual vaild excuse to increase prices

You can't stop GPUs from mining - in most cases the workloads purposely resemble gaming ones because they want the mining to be done on consumer GPUs and not ASICs. Which is why Nvidia can only nerf very specific parts of the crypto mining to a certain degree -- in fact the first LHR implementation did effect other workload performance.
I don't see how they are using it as a valid excuse to increase prices.

instead of having to manufactor one card they have to manufactor another card that tries to limit that mining, which technically has been bypass for while. so because that to make diffrent card (LHR) instead of the one that pass those expenses along to us.
Any one who think Nvidia and AMD arnt using the mining chip shorts now as excuse to increase prices is just head in sand they cant keep card in stock and when they do there sold out instantly then scalped

The only people that are punished by this are gamers who want to mine in their free time. Why would miners update their drivers? So dumb.

Maybe Nvidia expects to find a MASSIVE security flaw that would require even miners to switch to the newest drivers.

They don't manufacture a card for LHR, it's just a bios update.
Probably just testing it out for the new cards.

It's new card sales Nvidia are trying to control. Nvidia just need to up the revision by 1 in the hardware (a trivial change) so they only work with the latest driver or newer to prevent the bypass. They can probably get away with doing this silently without having to announce a new card. It means miners wanting to buy a shipping container of new cards will still not be sure that they can bypass the LHR.

People, remember "serious" miners will use custom OS, custom card BIOS/firmware and custom or at least cherry picked drivers.
As someone said before, this is just a PR stunt and only hurts casual miners that didn't buy their gpus for that.

It's not that simple - you can't use custom bios/drivers as they are locked down - the card does a standard encription check and will simply refuse to run if your bios/drivers encription key doesn't match. Unless someone successfully hacks it of course which quite possibly will happen, but no guarantees it will happen fast.
