Anyone who still using 3GB cards know that even for 1080p that much Vram is a no-go. I've been reducing texture settings in quite a few games now.

Calling it a 1060 will make it more attractive to buyers. Profit is the goal. And just looked at the specs... it would make no sense to call it a 1050 over a 1060.

True, I game at 1080p. I fired up Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor the other day and changed all the graphic options to Ultra. A message came up that said I needed 6gb of vram for Ultra Textures. Also there are plenty of other games that will make use of the vram that is there and go over 3gb. I know this card is a tad slower than the 6gb versions but It's capable of 60fps on games that use, will use, or need more vram. But I get it, it's a money situation for the buyer more than anything.

Same bandwidth as the 6gb version lol, 3gb crippled on cores, 6gb crippled on bandwidth... for $330. And why would any one want that many dp connections/dual link dvi on entry level stuff, 2016 budget line of samsung and LG monitors are hdmi/vga only, they´re not even doing their homework.

Aside from the fact that it's deceptive marketing.... We all know NVidia isn't going to put a label on the package informing customers that the 3GB model has a gimped GPU compared to the 6GB model.

Isnt that just a false marketing, again? You are selling a two same products with the same name but different specs. If there was no 3GB/6GB next to a GPU name how can one know?

By putting what is essentially the same name on 2 different products, they are implying that the 2 products will perform the same. In this case, the 3GB card will be slower because of the reduced GPU specs so, they are willingly deceiving customers. False advertising would be saying that a product has 4GB of VRAM when a portion of that VRAM is disabled. (the "4GB scandal" was deceptive marketing. Had they completely disabled the 512MB memory partition, it would have been false advertising.)

While I don't agree with the decision to cut cores, the false advertising implication is unfounded tbh. A user looking at such a card would see there's 2 versions and a quick look at specs would show the differences clearly. Infact, just hovering the mouse cursor over an item will show it's specs.

I got a good laugh from this post. Not every consumer buys graphics cards online from sites like OCUK, Scan, Newegg, etc. For consumers that buy from brick and mortar stores, the specs won't be clearly posted anywhere for comparison. THAT is where the deceptive marketing comes in. NVidia will never print the full product specs on the package, nor will their board partners. Consumers will look at the package, see the GTX1060 label and immediately assume that the performance will be the same, within a margin of error. So, care to show me how exactly you hover a mouse over a product on a store shelf to see it's specs??? I've never seen a mouse in my local BestBuy store....

So true. I'm glad I got the 4gb version of my 960. A lot of games chew through vram nowadays. Thankfully with 4gb @ 1080 I can crank most games to max textures. 3gb is a weird number. Next upgrade I'd definitely be going for at least 6, preferably 8gb

The same could be said for a DVD and a BluRay. For instance, Die Hard on DVD is at 480p but Die Hard on BluRay is at 1080p. Its labelled on the back on the box just like the specs to each of these cards are. One box says BluRay and one box says DVD just like it says 3GB and 6GB on these cards. See what I am getting at here?
