Or Nvidia could pull an intel and sell 2 versions of the same card. 1 with a locked bios and 1 with a unlocked bios and no warranty. Which would then be left up to the AIBs to either eat the cost at a replacement or not offer a warranty on the unlocked cards either. I personally wouldn't give a damn. If I was worried about burning up my stuff, I'd stop the LN2 session. But it's just too damn addicting. 😀

If I was worried about frying my graphics cards....I wouldn't forget to plug their fans in....lol On a more serious note....I kinda like that idea Phaze.

With Intel you have 2 prices .. the cpu who cost under 200$ and the cpu who cost higher of them .. Nvidia put the same limitation on the 680GTX you can find on GT 640 . Bascially the same limitation you can find on the card who cost under the 200$ and the card you pay 500$. Anyway some investigation need to be made, as the warranty for AIB who ask a recover from Nvidia for their RMA is not what consumer have as RMA.. it specifically concern the design sell to them by Nvidia... And so the concerne about reference design, not own design of PCB, PWM controller etc.. it remind me to much the problem seen with overvolting the 470-570 and 590.. Maybe a way to fix the problem at the source.

I miss BFG....
BFG had without a doubt the best customer service on the planet. And being so good at what they had, eventually came back to bite them in the ass.

Indeed, BFG actually answered their phones. I had to make long distance calls since at the time they had no line in Canada but whatever.

BFG actually had personnel posting on this forum....actively... I had several interactions with them on this forum, through e-mail and on the phone... Very friendly people willing to go out of their way to resolve your problem....even if it's not the fault of their hardware. They offered me a "no questions asked" RMA when Win7 first launched cuz I couldn't get it installed with my GTX275 installed. Never went through with it....but the fact they offered it meant a lot... Turned out to be a compatibility issue between the card and motherboard in the end. You just don't get that kind of service these days...

Agreed +100 They set the standard for sure.

Oh yeah, I remember - BFGZap...lol

Yep....had many, many dealings with BFGZap.... I probably drove him/her crazy with PM's at Win7's launch trying to get Win7 to install without BSOD...

...... Incompatibility between the card and the mobo? Lolwut, I would have went nuts trying to figure that out.

LOL at first I thought he said Vista. Had to read his post again 🤓

BFG died because many people abused there rma process. Stick your old 8800gtx in the oven or OC the hell out of it while disconnecting the fan and you have a dead card, send it off to BFG who will give you a nice shiny brand new GTX 280 as a replacement. Loads and loads of people did this, even at at the OCUK forum where people were actually talking about doing it infront of the BFG rep on there who went by the name of Jeff, there was nothing he could do about it,hence the abused RMA the world over and the death of BFG. I RMA'd my Dual PCB 295's and they sent me 4 brand new single PCB as replacements instead of 2 replacements. The best customer service on the planet without a doubt.

Aren't some of ex-BFG people formed Galaxy?
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/228/228458.jpg
Nope. Galaxy was formed back in the mid 90's iirc.

You may be talking about KFA2, they are Galaxies high performance cards. Best avoided, I own their GTX580 with Accelero Extreme cooler, nightmare company. See here, post #2: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=355543
I have the KFA2 GTX580. Cant recommend the company at all. The first card I had fell apart as it literally wasnt screwed together! Getting them to sort it out was really hard work, they kept passing me to different people and didnt pass on the information I had given them. Even the managers did this! They insisted I upload a copy of my invoice as proof of ownership but would not provide any secure way to upload it and the site it is stored on isnt secure either! There are more problems, I cant remember them all. I had to push them really hard to get it sorted and if it wasnt for my continual effort, I would have had to rebuild the card myself and lose the warranty! Avoid.
It was worse than that, I have a log of what happened. Dreadful service.

From what I remember reading is some EU BFG peeps went to work for Galaxy's EU division and that's how KFA2 got started.

Yes but he also said he would not RMA because the fault was his, I have seen cases on other sites where people have fried cards repeatedly and RMA them every time. And also the topic at hand is not what end users do, it is the agreement Nvidia has with its AIB partners.
Exactly and they have no problem doing so either as there is no reliable method after the card is dead to tell if it was too much voltage that fried it or not.I see no problem with what they are doing they are just making vendors responsible for warranties if they enable it.

The FIRST video card I purchased was BFG. It was everything they advertised. I, too, called customer service and the man I spoke with, "Rich" was so helpful and informative! He stayed with me on the phone until my installation was complete. Acually, I tried to buy the latest video card from BFG (memorable experience with a WONDERFUL company made me want to remain loyal) but was unable to find the company on the net. Now I know why I couldn't find them. Very sad news indeed. 🙁
