Should make Gabe Newell happy, but Microsoft should really rethink their position. Ratings are there for a reason, there's no need for Microsoft to be a nanny.

I think Microsoft are actually trying to lose as many customers as possible. It would explain a lot.

:stewpid:Moving on... Microsoft do appear to be deliberately limiting their market and antagonising enthusiasts at the same time. Not sure why they would pursue such a disastrous course of action.

Games are for all ages these days. They were targetted for kids then we all grew up :P Now we like out 15-18+ violent games. @Hallyru, I think Neo could be right :P I hope they rethink this topic.

But for other markets, it's a bit of a disaster. Europe especially. Here are some games that have, only recently, been awarded Europe's PEGI 18 rating, which under Microsoft's rules would mean they'd be excluded from the Windows 8 marketplace. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim The Witcher II Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Max Payne 3 The Walking Dead Sleeping Dogs Dishonored Mass Effect 2 Mass Effect 3 LA Noire Spec Ops: The Line Fallout: New Vegas Deus Ex Assassin's Creed: Revelations So, yeah, nearly all of the biggest and best games released in the past three years. Good thinking there, Microsoft.
Those games which arent there are old and people who were looking to buy those have already bought their copies or they will think about buying when those are at 75% discount from Steam. I honestly cant see a reason why there should be 50 different online publishers which sell the same games for the same price. It's not like that Marketplace really kicked off at any point so they arent actually losing any customers. Make that Windows Marketplace for applications mostly ? That could work. Or perhaps just open that Marketplace and let your kid pick up what he likes because there arent anything which he wants (18+ games) which he now cant play. I also can think about one possible scenario if they offered 18+ games there. Steam, Origin, D2D and whatever are there would sue them because they brought that system with W8 and now they would have monopoly for offering stuff which people want for same price as Steam and so. Games losing some W8 specific features ? Yah, that is going to be the reason why some big AAA games are going to fail, blaming piracy is getting old so good to have something new to blame other than the developers.

I buy them all from steam. And i like them violent to the bone! Guts and all. Microsoft´s gone dumb.

They can stuff their awful marketplace where the sun doesn't shine. Apple does the App Store right, MS is third rate yet again. I can imagine Ballmer playing Bad Piggies on his 80" surface!

According to some reports average US gamer was 37 years old, with only 18 percent of gamers coming in at under 18. So Microsoft is tailoring their market for minority and in most cases they are in education and don't have jobs yet.

Not one of you would buy from the Windows Store anyway, so why do you care? Further, most of you have expressed that you will never use Windows 8 anyway.

Great we can't comment on the course MS is taking simply because we are not willing to use one of their upcoming products? Lighten up.

I pretty sure PCElite's comment was meant as sarcasm.

This won't make a difference to me, but aren't they stupid? ;D

Fixed. I could accept that if he had placed a comma before the 'no'. The space after the no and before the question mark fails to have any meaning. Taking his first sentence as a statement of fact without any punctuation, or intonation for that matter, the only natural conclusion is he is wrong. Sarcasm needs correct syntax, no?

It's not Microsoft, it's your respective countries rating system who is to blame.

Don't see how this is an issue. It's not like you won't be able to buy the retail disc or buy from Steam so what's the big deal? Plus the moment they remove that restriction the marketplace will be flooded with porn games

Please don't tell me you're actually defending this decision.

Whenever I come upon such nonsense I say to myself: "Well, well, isn't it just like micro$oft...!" The other day, a colleague of mine (we are both employed, on a part-time basis as technicians at a small company where we maintain the video-surveillance system) told me, complaining of some people from administration: "It's incredibly illogical (since these people did this-and-that) - makes one think they work for micro$oft''. I was completely amazed so I replayed: "Oh, c'mmon, they can't be THAT stupid!"...

I could see this making some major titles get last minute edits to cut back the violence or $ex to make it into the Windows marketplace... as much for publicity as anything else, but that's merely a guess on my part. Maybe it won't affect anything, since as many have pointed out already, there are lots of other avenues for purchasing the game(s) of your choice.
