I hoped for a revised tegra with more power in docked mode, but nothing.

it likely has a revised tegra since nvidia no longer produces mariko.

Yeah pretty much a let down to hear them confirm it doesn't increase performance.

Not even a mention about fixing analogue drifting, same hardware, just extra money for a tiny bit better screen and an Ethernet port on the dock. Lame.

Same. A new SoC that supports DLSS so users can play at 1440p or 4K with decent frame rate is the upgrade most people are waiting for. This OLED Switch is literally the vanilla model with a lick of paint. It will still suffer from sub-30fps jitters when running BotW @ 900p when docked. Hard pass for me.

You can't really change the performance of the product because new games have to play on old hardware anyway. That said, instead of performance they can work on efficiency = battery life.

I was disappointed by this news the only upgrades to the Switch are the screen, the storage space and the dock is going to have an ethernet port on it which is something it should had in the first place. The bright side of things is that I don't need to worry about getting a new Switch I can just focus on getting a GPU upgrade and a PS5. I might just purchase the new dock if Nintendo is still selling the docks sperate that is.

It would be the same as PS4 and PS4 Pro.

Or the 3DS versus the New Nintendo 3DS. They had minor hardware upgrades that improved gameplay. I still would have welcomed Bluetooth support and a battery upgrade. We got neither....

theres this silly claim that shaders have to be compatible but thats absolutely nonsense because nvidia doesn't provide full black box details to nintendo anyway, the product is using a proprietary kernel blob which communicates and compiles shaders into hardware native format on the fly and the same will happen with a switch pro using a ampere based tegra soc. the only real concern is the 2 arm based cpu's retaining compatible instruction sets.

I honestly just wish Nintendo would separate their living room and handheld products again. I'm sure there's plenty of people out there like myself that don't really game on the go, but do enjoy Nintendo's games. The Switch just doesn't cut it for modern TVs, especially considering the Xbox Series S is quite a bit cheaper and the Digital Edition PS5 isn't wildly more expensive. It's really not a desirable product if you primarily game in the living room.

Ill just stick to the emulator and the games i decide to play.

The LAN port is probably the best thing they added. The Switch WIFI connection was poor at best.

There is nothing done to the hardware/silicone at all. Only things changed are the screen, stand for the system is wider and they've introduced an Ethernet port to the dock. Exact same tegra board is inside the system since it launched years ago. Oh no wait. It's the same board in the system since four years before the system launched even. Why I never bought one before and will wait for this supposed Switch Ultra next year maybe.....?

Couldn't that be "brute forced" into making the instruction set act like it's being emulated for the most part? Kind of like an emulation software would do? Honestly just asking because I'm truly ignorant on the topic itself.

its not, mariko got a revision in 2019 that decreased power usage and improved performance a tiny bit.

why emulate when the arm instruction set is all there for you to customize as you like 😀

I bought the newer version of Switch about two years ago (the one that locked down a few holes in third party software ;-/ unknown to me) for the son. He still uses it AS AN ULTRA EXPENSIVE YOUTUBE TABLET. And I did buy lots of expensive Pokemon games for it. Only reasonable value thing I got for it was the 20 euro 128GB Sandisc MicroSD memory card from Amazon (which is absolutely essential). Didn't ever notice any WIFI problems with it though.

seeoLED can be use in small screen and not cost arm and leg.. yet we still dont have 50inch oLED that dont cost arm and leg.

Can't wait for the switch pro 2 with extra rgb led strips on the joycons ! Rgb leds give at least 50% gaming !

Would be great if the increase in performance was something tangible. And by upgrade in hardware I mean an upgrade. Not a sorry iterative jump in something that was four years old before your hardware came out.
