Of course, as you're not the only person in the world and people do like other things.

I wonder if they are doing something wrong. But i doubt it. 200gigs of stuff, what is there? Textures and sounds take all this space? Are there fmvs? Can't be the code.

@jbscotchman glad we have you to determine what ppl on this planet want..

Another point for bundling textures, maps, modes and other large things separately. In the past I've installed a game on a HDD, copied the important or often loaded stuff on a SSD and symbolic linked it back to the game folder. Or the other way around - on Windows "mklink /D ..."

its easy to separate mp from sp (most dont play both) and save a ton of space.

This is crazy. 😱

Back when Call of Duty was on Steam you could install the single player mode separately from the multiplayer mode. They should really go back to this again because now an entry level SSD is no longer capable of holding the game. What's galling is that if you go to the Call of Duty website (https://www.callofduty.com/modernwarfare/pc) and go to the system requirements it doesn't even reflect these new requirements, it still lists 175GB of space.

It's not just a problem of an entry level SSD. All the PC gamers I know have more than a single game installed. This game alone would devour half of a regular 500GB SSD.

Its assets , asset optimization is an afterthought these days, it just isnt worth the development time to them, its unfortunately a console trend, for the longest time games would be between 8-15gb mainly because you could fit that on a dvd compressed, now with bluray xl they have 128gb of space+ the ability to download the game, the sizes grow to the media. same thing happened in the early days with CDs. Frankly im surprised that sony or microsoft allow them to use that much space without good reason, thats like half of the space on a ps4 500gb model.

Whats the reason behind such big volume ?

Maybe in future, we'll have a new 'gaming port', so that you can plug&play your game like in times of ATARI/C64 the cardridge, only that it comes on a nvme SSD (that carries a propper labeling as well...) What a bright future! xD

Yearly cash-grab reskin, new and improved with cold-war zombie mode. But I guess that's what the people want. They want to watch Rocky 17.

But that's the stupid thing: last I heard, this game is a much more reasonable size on consoles. For whatever reason, they seemed to have ditched compression entirely on PC. So, they already put in the time and effort to compress it, why not just keep it? I vaguely remember hearing them say something like "it's for performance reasons" as though PC somehow has a harder time decompressing than consoles, which is nonsense. If you have the money to burn 200GB of disk space on a single game, you have the money for a CPU that isn't going to be overwhelmed with decompression. I wonder how small this game could be made using W10's LZX compression.

It would be interesting to know how much of that space is actually used on microtransactions, 50gb? 100? 150?!
