I'm sure they keep backups.

Ring when they introduce an option to don't collect them in the first place...

Best just to stick to a third party app like Spybot anti beacon, i use that myself but not because they are collectiong data from my pc, but rather the fact that they are using my paid for internet connection to grab said data, i mean if they want to pay me for said data then by all mean we can talk MS. 😉

I doubt it. All these changes are being added because of the GDPR, keeping backups of the data after you've told them to delete it would mean risking fines in the billions. How you can check it? Has MS some Snowden like guy?

Follow that up with an option to turn off auto-updating (especially drivers) and I'd be happy to use W10.

I saw an interview the other day with Elon Musk where he was saying that peoples data will be the number one traded commodity in the near future. Let's say 20 years time. MS is cheeky AF gathering our basics to sell for profit.

Well, there is an "option" to don't update specific drivers in Windows Update settings but i know from experience that i doesnt work as intented. 😡

It'll be when Facebook and Google give you the option to remove as well. You know, companies who deserve this hate FAR more.

It will be...Never. The final recipient of the data is not MS (it's only a tool in this case), it's the NSA and nobody will ask them to delete their "bakups". LOL Never used FB or Twitter so they can't backup anything from me.

I don't want an option to delete it, I want an option for it not being there in the first place.

I'm getting pissed off only reading this. My laptop is an ASUS rog, it's a nice laptop except for 2 things: - HD audio driver has built-in compression which ruins the whole listening experience for me - laggy touch pad ONLY when the driver is installed Guess what happens when I'm trying to install a normal HD audio driver. You guessed it, Windows goes over me and installs the rog-specific one. Guess what happens when I try to install another touchpad driver. It installs the standard Elantech one after the restart. And yes, I've told it to NOT do any of the above. Screw that bullshit. I wish Linux becomes mainstream just because Microsoft doesn't deserve the OS near-monopoly it has.

Even if you do the driver installation while disconnected from the internet, and then blocking windows from installing drivers automatically before reconnecting to the internet?

I think GDPR says that customers must be able to see what personal data is being held so you need to provide a query to allow them to do it. GDPR only applies in the EU but I suppose because of telemetry, any company using Win 10 within the EU could inadvertently be sending personal data from it's clients to Microsoft which if is not auditable and removable would make that company in breach of GDPR. So as I understand it, unless they also add the auditability mechanism, businesses in the EU could not use anything but Win10 LTSB. That could seriously hurt Win10 sales. Have I interpreted GDPR correctly? Have MS? The entire IT industry is asking the same questions right now.

Yes, it's one of the first things I've tried. It reinstalls the rog one during the next restart as an 'update'.

Only if having the data in the first place can be against the law. The law hasnt caught up yet.
