I guess they'll add this to DirectX 12.x for Windows and XBox and simultaneously block Sony and others from using this technique on non-MS platforms.

Not that I have a problem with this, but, I got the impression memory was not anywhere close to being the bottleneck for RT (particularly on low-end cards). Perhaps I'm wrong though - I never took a deep dive into this stuff.

It really isn't because raytracing doesn't use all that much more memory than non-RT rendering. I am surprised this patent was even granted. It is not significantly different than the many thousands of level of detail systems already in existence. It would be virtually impossible to prove anyone infringed upon either.

RT has been such a busted flush across the gaming industry, and i don't think that will change until casual gamers can use it without selling both kidneys. Lol

Yep, that's why I just bought a 7700 XT when it finally cost a total $400: with RT off and AA turned down a bit (I never liked full AA), it has enough performance and VRAM for 4K @ 60FPS in most titles. Considering how AMD's drivers mature over time, I'm sure it'll hold me over until GPUs get good enough to do 4K @ 60FPS with RT on at the same price point.

I find it crazy that this console gen only got 16gb, the previous one did like a 16x over the one before, and that S thingy with just 10gb, wth were they thinking? they really believed they could use nvme as ram or something
