I'm getting a copy from Microcenter later today since they have it for a mere $38.88 ($30+ cheaper than most places). The only reason I'm getting it is to have a cheap upgrade for an old XP license. Also, for anyone that works on computers all the time, it's pretty important to know the OS inside out, whether you like it yourself or not. πŸ˜›

OEM is the full version. It behaves as the retail one did on previous versions.

It is impossible to believe that some of you guys consider your self's computer "experts". Dual booting must be something you all have not heard of but hey, your loss. Me, I have it now installed on my tablet and dual booting it on my laptop at work. I will eventually put in on my desktop but, Dataplex does not yet support it and I would need to purchase new bluray playback software.

Why buy W8 and dual boot next to W7? What benefit could that possibly give?

Because, this is my work machine and I see no reason to wipe out my 1.5 year old Windows 7 installation. I have 2 Seagate hybrid hard drives installed and each OS installed on individual drives. If one drive dies or an OS gets corrupted, I can still use the other.

I'm kinda lost here. If i'm building a new PC by myself and want to buy a full copy of Windows 8 pro (not upgrade) what am i supposed to do ? Buy an OEM license ???

Yep, $99 for regular $139 for pro.
All of the agreements are written in plain language that’s surprisingly easy to understand, and Windows 8 will, for the first time ever, include a new Personal Use License that explicitly permits retail customers to install and run OEM System Builder software.

I'm using Win 8 with Start8 and it's fantastic. Boots faster than Win7 ever did! I recommend it with Start8. I definitely recommend this if anyone is still on XP or Vista. Win7 too of course, but unless you have SSD's you won't notice much of a difference in speed with Win8.

This is a serious question, why do I care how fast it boots? How often are you cold booting your computer that even if it was a minute faster it would make any difference?

Why buy a new OS, only to bastardise it so it looks like what we already have? I bought a new mouse instead of Win8, just saying!

Everyone who hates Windows 8 also hates the Xbox 360 and owns a Playstation 3...quite obviously! Pretty smart of Microsoft to release a tiled dashboard to the Xbox 360 first so the hundreds of millions of customers already have a feel for it. Working in an IT environment I've actually yet to get my hands on Windows 8 but no doubt I will throw a family member in to the test dummy phase with Windows 8. Windows 7 was a joke, I installed it on my Dad's PC 6 months after release, and when Service Pack 1 came out it ballsed up and I had to re-install from fresh. No wonder Microsoft aren't bothering with Service Pack 2. Windows 7 matured enough after Service Pack 1 so I finally went ahead and upgrade from XP, I didn't like it at first but I do now. Windows 8 looks like the first OS to roll off the line which actually looks quite decent and tempting...to me any ways.

This is a serious answer. Why act so hostile over my post? I said if you have Win 7 already don't bother unless you have SSD's and want to upgrade. If you have XP or Vista, this is a great OS with Start8.

Not true at all. I don't own a 360, and own a PS3 and I am using Win8 with Start8 and it's a great experience so far.
