The store is much better at keeping things updated, and it's a good alternative in case you can't use a package manager like chocolatey. My personal preference is for them to integrate Store packages in WinGet and to finally have a real package manager in Windows.

A proper redesign of the store would be to get it out of my face as much as possible and allow me to choose apps on my PC rather than default to the store for everything.

It's great how Xbox features are making their way to Windows 10.

Default to the store for everything? You must be doing it wrong because, I installed Windows 10 for gaming only on my 3 computers and until I needed it, the Windows store never came up.

It doesnt come up in the manner that you presume, but rather when you want to choose default apps for images, media, browsing to be handled by 3rd party apps, it will suggest store first. And if you have preference for portable apps (rather than conventionally installed), the store will be the only option that comes up for these. There are workarounds, but thats the way it is as of now. For the masses (regular users) who are happy with windows default apps, this is not an issue.
