"Many Xbox 360 game consoles failed from overheating. That led to a $1.1 billion write-off as Microsoft replaced failed machines for as many as one out of every two early customers." I didn't know it was as many as one out of two early customers. Hope this time there's no such problems.

I knew someone who had to replace his xbox 3 times within 1 year. He had it replaced 4 times in total.

Red Ring of Death - my oh my! Red Ring of Death (RROD) would be a perfect replacement for BSOD. How refreshing for all of us it would be... and even comforting for the owners of a AMD hardware (''yeah, it failed me again, but this time it does not remind me of Intel'') ...

I'd rather have a second controller, than this useless piece of *beep* Kinect crap.

I don't see what is to get excited about with that AMD chip, they were made for low powered laptops weren't they? Just seems to me that the PC has already won, an I7 would surely eat that thing alive and well we already know our GPUs are much better.

Yep I too had one red ring on me and got a new one sent to me on RMA. I sold that one for a PS3 and been much happier with it. I also know TWO friends who one of them has brought in total FIVE Xbox 360's since its launch, and four of them red ringed on him. The other friend also had three Xbox 360's and all three red ringed, he too gave up on them and brought a PS3. Never in a million years will I buy a Microsoft product day one, or within the first six months of launch! Never ever ever. I shall be avoiding Xbox One like it was the plague. I could care less about their 180 turns on their polices and kinect now not being needed. I honestly think they must think the only people who buy their machines are the soccer moms for their spoiled brat little kids. Well they forgot about how vocal the hardcore gamer is and how much people listen when we all speak up. They also forgot its not 1998 and we now have social media as a tool and it seriously works. Have you seen the **** they are trying to pull with Killer Instinct?? They will release the game FOR FREE but you only get Jago as a playable character and you have to buy the other characters for £5/$5!!!!! Excuse me but F^^K THAT!!

That is correct. Console only players who know nothing of PC hardware will shout of their; "8 core super charged CPU!" That uses architecture used in low powered laptops, has one or two cores locked off for kinect processing/operating systems, also another core reserved for audio processing. Is clocked at 1.6-1.8GHz, Also the fact its not even a true 8 core its just 4 dual threaded modules, kind of like four cores with hyper threading. "We have 8GB DDR3!" Yes and Microsoft already stated that 3GB will be reserved for the machines THREE operating systems!! So in essence I don't need to upgrade my PC at all as my CPU will wipe the floor with this chip, I have 12GB DDR3 which is my ONE OS only uses 1.6GB of at start up (13%). And my GPU completely wipes the floor with the GPU's in the new consoles as well, their compute performance being 1.2-1.8TFlops and my 7970 at STOCK is 4.3TFlops. One good thing about the new consoles is devs should be making games for the PC first and THEN porting down to consoles which is already happening in most of the games being made. And hopefully all this processing power we have under the hoods of our rigs will finally be getting used to way it should of been used in the first place!

Yes, but what about crap ports ? You will need all that power and more.
data/avatar/default/avatar31.webp
Why do they need so much locked off for the OS? Like when I look at my usage my system is using hardly anything on idle, only when I go into games do I see all 4 cores spike out. So surely games are getting the lion share of all 4 cores and the system is barely using anything unless I run stuff in the background. I'm curious though about the PS4s 8gb of GDDR5. Wanna see how that works out, like was it another Sony lie and when the console comes out it turns into DDR3? lol. Is it like 3GB of GDDR5 and 5gb of DDR3? Just wanna see if it really releases with it.

x86 processor architecture should help^(I hope)

I'm wondering if now we all have to get AMD stuff from now on, they'll be the focus of developers and we see with multithreaded games that their current CPUs can go head to head with Intels and at a fraction of the price. It's really this single threaded generation that has really hurt AMD.

I never understand the comments about "PC has already won" I mean look at the specs of the PS3 and XB360, thats like geforce 7 era hardware and its pumping out the visuals of Dead Space 3, Bioshock, MGS4, DMC and BF3. I mean those games are better on PC's but could even imagine what they'd look like on Radeon X1950 or 7800GTX. That's a pretty impressive result, so if they have hardware that now 7 years newer I'm looking forward to some good things.

You're confusing Jaguar for Bulldozer. Jaguar is not a modular architecture like Bulldozer. The Jaguar architecture can scale from 1 core to as many cores as AMD can stuff into a processor package, unlike Bulldozer that can scale from 2 "cores" (1 module) to as many cores (module count x 2) as AMD can stuff into a processor package. Of course, your statement shows your ignorance on the matter anyway. Some of us actually remember when a processor core was little more than an ALU (the 8086 didn't contain an FPU at all....nor did the 80286 or 80386). If you knew anything about processor history, you'd stop posting this bull****. The FPU does not make a core. The ALU is the actual processor core. Hell, until the i486, processors didn't contain an FPU at all. AMD's approach is also nothing like HyperThreading. HyperThreading is running 2 or more threads "simultaneously" on a single processor core. AMD is running up to 8 threads, on up to 8 different cores (denoted by the 4, 6 or 8 independent ALUs).

Consoles have the advantage of running the code at hardware level. The code for consoles is also heavily optimized for the hardware it's being executed on, unlike PC's where exceptions have to be made for broader compatibility.

Man you're "friends" stories are highly exaggerated. You sound like a typical PS3 fanboi. Listen I had one original 360 RR and I also had one 60GB original PS3 YLoD. After those I purchased new consoles and have never had an issue since. The fact that the YLoD came 1.5 years after the RRoD fiasco helped to shadow it from the negative light it surely would have endured had the RRoD never happened. The reason it was 1.5 years after the RRoD??? The PS3 was released 1.5 years after the 360 and it failed at almost exactly the same time! I know it wasn't quite as bad an issue as the 360 had but I personally know 5 people who had the YLoD with their PS3 "fat" systems. You're comment was just highly "fanboish" in tone and it's people like you that cause flame wars.

Wow... And now you sound like a PC elitist jerk that gives all of us in the PC community a bad name. How old are you?
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/206/206288.jpg
Older than you think and while he is normally quite decent i think he has fell into the trap he thinks "console gamers" are in and not read up on the hardware he is talking about. The messed up part is the Xbox One is by far the most interesting console so far this time, after a disastrous start MS has slowly but surely climbed back up while Sony has stood still. All it needs is one decent Xbox price cut and Sony is in trouble yet again. I'm baffled they let MS back in tbh, as a company they are have gotten soft and weak compared to how they used to be. As for this, Kinect 2 does sound good, but only if it's properly supported and actually works in low(ish) light and small rooms. If it only works for people with huge rooms then people are just not going to bother.

I must say if that is true then thats pretty low charging for a game that came out years ago. If you buy all the chars it ends up being more expensive than it was when it was released! Id rather play the Arcade Perfect N64 or Mame version anyhow.
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/206/206288.jpg
If you actually think about it, it's not that bad? You will likely know if you like the game or not via the free game, so you will only spend money on something if you like it, plus.
Finally there's the Killer Instinct Ultra Edition, which Microsoft describes as "the best value" for fans. The Ultra Edition costs £34.99 / €39.99 / $39.99, and includes the six launch fighters, early access to the two DLC characters, accessory packs, extra costumes ("the characters look different. It's not just, we make their pants blue") and an emulated version of the original Killer Instinct arcade game.
I'm not usually a fan of F2P stuff, but too often these days you end up paying for stuff you never need or want. I hate MP, why should i pay for the upkeep of servers etc... others hate SP so why should they pay for the costs of the campaign.

He's been making posts like that.... He's been corrected in regards to the modified Jaguar based processors in the XBone and PS4 several times, but continues the same rant.
