You need RTX 2070 for 1080P 60? Is that a joke?

Thanks for the review. Well I was looking forward to this game too bad RTX cards are not very useful in this game for the release. I hope the game is going to be smooth on Freesync/Gsync at around 45FPS 4K Ultra setting but if not I am ok dropping settings down for 60 FPS.

Terrible performance... And DeNuvo (VM(!) anti-consumer DRM) isn't helping at all either 😉 And that's without rtxlol..

Not even the 2080Ti can run the game at 60fps @ 4K? We live in strange times indeed.

New Vega56 seems like a good deal now. comapred to RTX2070. They bring same perf in this title. Not to mention 250 euro second hand Vega64's that are moving around.

It's Metro... pretty much expected.

Redux versions had great performance. Thanx to Epic and DEnuvo. I'll just waitfor Metro toget released on steam. When it does I bet it will be a Redux version lol

In most 'normal scenes' perf will be a notch better alright. In the very harsh ones, FPS will cave in. Small note I made in the conclusion (which seems relevant): Please let me reiterate that we have used the internal benchmark of the game to measure performance, you can find the executable in the game directory to replicate results yourself and match them up with ours. Overall the benchmark seems to be a good notch tougher than your average game scene. That said, the reality is also that Metro Exodus will vary in FPS quite a lot depending on the scene you play in. As such the benchmark results represent the harsh and hard to render scenes much better than the overall framerate of the game (which is higher by a fair degree)

Any news about SLi support Hilbert? Great article as always 🙂

another game where i dont see anything remotely justify the acquisition of an RTX card. At least not for the current price. it looks good otherwise but i expected more of a difference from the ON/OFF comparison.

Ooooh I like the slider for RTX on the screenshot. That's a nice touch. I'd be interested in seeing 4K and 1440p results without (or at least, reduced) AA. I'm sure performance numbers won't look so abysmal there.

I was hoping to be able to play this at 1440p with my good old i5 2500k @4.8Ghz CPU and a Nvidia 1070 GPU but this article is making me think otherwise... 🙁 Am i wrong?

The game is heavily GPU bottlenecked. Your 1070 can already get playable framerates at 1440p with maxed out AA. I'm sure you'll be fine. Of course, this depends on whether you find 30FPS playable. I would.

How perform DX11 or Vulcan vs DX 12 on Pascal? Nice pictures, realistic i buy this game friday cause im a Metro fan.

Going by those images, it really only looks like more light sources (actual lights) and added reflections. Haven't played the game yet, so will take it with a pinch of salt. However, if that's all it is in effect, I don't think current gen cards are going to make much use of this tech.
They had a early video showcasing RTX's entire lineup of effects from the initial reveal from reflections used in the water to the shadows and then ambient occlusion. [youtube=2NsdM1VS5u8] Which then got changed into using it for global illumination instead and light bounces. (It's pretty interesting as this was a new effect entirely for RTX.) [youtube=Ms7d-3Dprio] Which previous is often pre-baked or has other shortcuts since it's very expensive and now it can be used via D3D12 DXR through NVIDIA RTX and eventually also Vulkan via extensions. As to if it's worth the performance hit well probably hard to justify, SLI support might have been one way to leverage it out a bit or something like PhysX where a secondary card could be dedicated to RTX maybe?

Yeah, but if Hilbert got 34 Frames per Second on Ultra with a 1070 @1440p (with a much better and newer CPU), I will have even lower FPS with my 4 core CPU...Probably will nedd to lower graphic quality to achieve decent framerate.

the benchmark isn't representative of in game performance, it's a lot more taxing that in game performance.

No, you need RTX 2070 to achieve average of 60fps on 1080p maxed. 99th percentile will be around 44~48fps.

Why not?

You'll probably lose a few FPS here and there but like I said, the game is GPU bottlenecked. Use DX12 to get the best mileage out of your CPU. Remember: DX12 and Vulkan are designed to reduce CPU overhead. If you look at the graphs comparing DX12 to DX11, you'll see there's no performance difference, suggesting the CPU he's using isn't working very hard, or at least not at full capacity, and that was comparing a much better GPU than what you have. Yours will obviously be working harder than a 9900K, but yours is clocked pretty high so I suspect you won't get any major loss in performance. Anyway, yes, you will probably need to make some sacrifices, but I'm pretty sure you could average above 30FPS with AA off. Maybe just kill a few background processes, just in case.
