I'm sure a lot of them are willing to, but good luck getting the tights from Valve.

Valve is the most strange IT company I've seen. They do care for many different things, but at the same time give the s*** for all the past, that brought them to this day. hope they reconsider one day, even if it means selling\licensing rights to IP to someone else.

Valve are no longer game developers. They're greedy hat casino owners now - not interested in the arts anymore.

I'm OK with Valve not making HL3. Look at Gearbox when they made Opposing Forces and even the modders who made Black Mesa mod. It can be done with a 3rd party team comprising of ex-Valve members and using the Source engine (for nostalgia sakes) with Valve and Gabby's blessings. I just want HL3 before another decade!

I am interested to see what Neill Blomkamp is working on for Valve.

VALVe haven't released a game since 2013 I doubt his departure signals anything meaningful nor provide any insight in to VALVe's direction or intent really. I met Chet he was a decent chap I'm surprised they ever let him near a keyboard šŸ˜‰

Valve isnt game developer anymore. You cant **** up if you dont make games, right?

Valve is only about DoTA 2, twice a week at least giving updates. That's all. I don't know if it's that profitable to be honest.

I believe they won't make new games until the ones they currently have become obsolete and/or are not good incomes anymore. Then there's the part that Valve might have done HL2 with the intention of atracting people to Steam, and it worked. Thanks to Valve we have a PC digital distribution platform, the same way consoles have their own, so it's not that bad.

You guys are really ignoring the obvious: HL3 would have so much hype around it, it'd be a daunting task to make it good enough such that the people would be happy. That's because HL and HL2 are some of the best games of all times. I don't think it's as simple as some of you seem to think.

Everyone wants HL3, but I personally would rather have a remaster from beginning to end, with maybe a better alternate ending. Maybe do a "director's cut", where maybe some parts people didn't like would be removed or altered. Sometimes franchises and stories are better left alone.

No doubt, it couldn't possibly live up to the hype. But they could have finished episode 3 when they had the chance. They just left us hanging. I hope with good reason.

Sorry but thatĀ“s a silly excuse. There are lots of games that canĀ“t live to the hype and still they are released because they are easy money makers! But people have to understand that Valve only cares about Steam! They could make some easy millions from HL3 but they make much more everyday by selling games made by other companies on Steam!... The moment Valve made Steam was the moment they stopped making games...

Don't you see the contradiction in that logic? If Valve is focusing on Steam because it's a great source of revenue, why would they stop there? As you said, a game like HL3 would be an easy money-maker. Valve is willing to spend some to get a lot, even when the short-term expense is great. They contribute toward open-source projects (such as Linux graphics drivers). They will ultimately get that money back due to expansion of their marketshare. Nothing is preventing Valve from releasing another Half-Life game, except maybe tarnishing their reputation.

What about HL1 and HL2 writers? are they still at Valve?

I agree, Episode 3 was even in the works goddammit. I don't like the way they handled it, they indeed should have finished it when they had the chance.

Because Valve's reputation is important. They are considered one of the better (good guy) software companies around, if they tarnish their reputation they will lose a lot. And I agree with schmidtbag, you contradicted yourself. If Valve were so greedy, they'd easily out HL3 and get a ****ton of money no matter if it's good or not.

Yes iĀ“m contradicting myself but thereĀ“s an easy explanation for that, no matter how successful HL3 could be, in the end it would be pocket change for them because of how much money they make daily from Steam and because canĀ“t monetize the game like DOTA or Counter Strike. As for the tarnishing their reputation, we are talking about the company that profits from selling broken games in alpha/beta and wants to sell mods! So spare me from the "Valve is one of the good guys" nonsense. They are a company interested in making money, same as all the others... Not to mention if Valve was so good, they would have released H3 a long time ago to satisfy their fans...

Valve is no longer a company that makes games. Valve is a company that makes platforms to take a cut from. Pity.
