Lets be honest here. This old discontinued 8700k can be faster in games than any amd cpu on the market. Yes, difference is small but its there. It will take few more zen generations to get there and thats if intel did nothing.
I have a feeling Zen3 will eliminate the gap. The 8core ccx and unified cache will do wonders for game performance.

Could be but intel also rummors some hefty increase in ipc with its 7nm.

We will not see that till 2023. The are showing 10nm through 2022. Though Alderlake should be good it will be competing with Zen4 and the new AM5 platform.
