It's a K model so I suspect it will be up for retail. I sure love how AMD and Intel keep trading blows lately.

What they should do is make a non K than can do something like a guaranteed 5.2 ghz on like 5 cores or something. That would be an interesting product.

what they should do is stop artificially locking their lineup in the first place nothing on amd is locked unless u have some cheap a320 mobo, even if they would just allow memory overclocking at least then the 10400 could compete.

Unless they have binning issues for the i9 I don't really get why this exists? As it's a K model you could just overclock it to the full i9-9900 in 5 seconds.

The point of such CPUs is that they can sell a lower binned part. It may not meet the requirements for a 10900K, but it runs fine 100MHz lower. If you buy this expecting it to OC as good as a 10900K, you would be disappointed. There don't have to be any binning issues. Binning is part of every stack. The best dies become 10900K, slightly worse become 10700K. If they can put something in between to sell dies that still have 10 fully functional cores, just clock a bit worse, thats a win for them - assuming people buy it.

i think is kind of the same thing like the 3700x is to 3800x slightly lower bin for lower price

The point Stairmand was trying to make is why exactly is this CPU a K series. The lower bin basically implies this will be a worse overclocker, and when it comes to Intel, you pay a premium for chips that can overclock. The performance difference is so minimal that if it really isn't capable of the extra 100MHz, it might as well be a 10900 (non-K) and shave $50 off the price tag. The fact it can overclock but is ever-so-slightly slower means the price difference will be insignificant, compared to the full product.

So how many cores can actually get to five plus gigahertz at the same time?

all of them?! Not by default tho.

good 10900k does 5300 to 5400mhz all 10 cores prime stable 🙂 One of mine 10900k does 5300mhz 1.27v @ load on Apex xii. 4700c17 memory If this is 10850k is a lower bin, 4.9 -5ghz all core is maybe the "max" for most.

Does this performance scale in games/workloads in general in comparison to AMD's current offerings? Not just at 1080 either but higher resolutions mainly.

You can find 3900x for 400$ so the pricing will be nice to see. 3900xt will probably fight the 10900k.

1440p is the new 1080p, so yes 🙂 I'm getting even better minfps on 3440x1440 in some games over my max oc 3900x using 2080ti on both pc's. With new "3080ti" coming, 1440p is even more the new 1080p. In cpubound scenarioes, 10900k is 20-25% faster (games) than 3900x. Both overclocked. Difference in Cinebench r20 is about 10-12%. 3900x having 20% more cores. So for rendering only, the 3900x is the better choice. Faster "singlecore" and lower latency looks to cost more than just more cores.

$450 right? not $4549...
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/115/115462.jpg
If this is $4549, it better do 7GHz on all cores stock... 🙄

So this is the 3700x to the 3800x but for intel ! Or the 9900k to 9900ks .....or the 3900x to the 3900xt ....ok you get the point ....i always find such cpus render pointless their bigger brothers normally the just clock 100 -200 mhz on max oc bellow their bigger brothers and even in stock you need to measure it with Benchmarks or have a huge render that takes hour to see diference of a minute or two....

"Intel Core i9-10850K The $4549 10-Core Alternative? (updated)" $4549 must be a typo, has to be... You could have a couple 3950X for that kind of money! 🙂

Well, at $4549 ea, I don't see these doing very well....;) j/k--I know it's a typo.

In an ideal world. Intel are pretty tight.
