3/3.3GHz = nothing great for games. I hope that per-clock performance will be better than with 3770/4770.

Poor CPU. Soldered TIM is a good move in my book. I was sweating a bit as I sliced into my 3770k with a razor blade. Then I saw the block of wood trick and I was like, that's awesome!

Yah, I wasn't going to but the more cores the better in PS, Premiere and AE. I'd still like to see some performance numbers though 😉

btw why does it have that paper on it and something like glass? Or is this a soldering thing
I don't think it's paper, i think it's just the outer layer has been ground off to leave a rough copper finish. They do go orange like that once you remove the nickel plating.

As I've understood, it's "glued" together with epoxy. Epoxy is resistant to temperatures.
Most epoxies fail quite quickly when exposed to heat. 250'f is typically enough for an epoxy to lose 90% of its strength in about 15 minutes. A few weeks ago I was fixing my ultrasonic cleaner because the transducer thing After reading dozens of MSDS sheets, I ended up using steel reinforced JB weld because it supposedly handles 500'f. So far the thing has held up but i'm still pretty sure very long durations of heat will have a cumulative effect. As for the topic at hand. Poor CPU... 🙁 This story is exactly why I never rush out to be the first. Better to let others make expensive mistakes.

Hmm didn't expect epoxy to go weak on just 250f / 120+C, but thanks for the info! Well, as somebody else stated before, you would damage the cpu before the epoxy melts, so I guess it's not that much of an idea to use it to delid the 5960X. Yet again, I wonder, will it help to get rid of the cpu's heat? I'm afraid so it's not a very good tim by the sense of it's word, or am I wrong there again?

120C* shouldn't destroy cpu with controlled temparature, by raising it slowly, from the corners to the middle.

Not me, no point coming from a gaming perspective, tbh a quad core with a good gpu is all you need for gaming if im being honest.

I will probably get this, the middle 6 core that is, if the price is right but not at launch. I will wait some months to check out best motherboards/ram and coolers that will come out with this and if it is worth it gaming wise, I will go for it. Thing is, I also want to upgrade in the GPU department, I doubt I will have the money for both. QQ

Now that's what a call a Dead CPU :giggle2: :funny: , thank you for the guys who did it , so no one else kill their cpus this way once they are out 🙂 , soldered = no delid.
