Why force it open like that. That poor baby. :P
Why not just melt the TIM, and then take appart the CPU correctly?

As I've understood, it's "glued" together with epoxy. Epoxy is resistant to temperatures.

RIP that 5960X... 🙁

It's dead...Isn't there a way to open it without damaging it? Controlled heat? Infrared controlled heat?

Cmon for enthusiat market they should sell it with heatspreader and epoxy kit.
If you want you glue it, otherwis you lap it and you go with wathever!

RIP 5960X 🙁
Correct. The 5960X is a gimped Xeon. That's why it has the solder. Same goes for the 5930 and 5820

3/3.3GHz = nothing great for games.
I hope that per-clock performance will be better than with 3770/4770.

I'm eyeing the 6 core for exactly that reason. Balance between better multithreaded performance & CPU frequency.

I'm not sure I want to trade JB Weld for real solder but I guess it's better than nothing.
That epoxy, as thick as it is, doesn't exactly appear to be sparkling with silver.

Even though the chip is a gimped Xeon chip it is still a step in the right direction. Heck we could see the standard non enthusiast i series Cpus go back to their SB routes.

btw why does it have that paper on it and something like glass? Or is this a soldering thing
