14700k is 7% faster in singlethread c23 compared to my zen4, 2192 vs 2032. Not impressive. I see why its not called CORE ultra 7 just yet. 😀

This thing will be as hot as the surface as the sun as soon as it has to actually do anything taxing

Only 4% faster than the 13700K in single core. That probably means IPC is the same as 13th Gen.

I will wait for the 14900KS as my last upgrade for lga 1700 in a year or two. Running 13700KF stock and undervolted with power limits lifted on h2o is doing its job nicely for me right now , runs 5.4Ghz during heavy usage and downclocks nicely to 1.1Ghz while on desktop , low loads and web browsing.

One thing's for sure, it won't be named 14700K. Maybe Core Ultra 7 1470?

it is named Core i7-14700K

I had to do some double takes. Branding change starts with Meteor Lake, which is the "14th Gen" CPUs. As stated in the slides here: https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/intel-introduces-branding-updates-for-core-processors-intel-core-ultra-and-intel-core.html You can also read on Meteor Lake here: https://www.techadvisor.com/article/743458/intel-meteor-lake-14th-gen-release-date-pricing-and-spec-rumours.html It's the next CPU cycle. The naming will be different as per Intel. Raptor Lake (13th Gen - current CPUs) -> Meteor Lake (""""14th Gen""" - shouldn't be named as such since Intel wants to drop the Generation thing) -> Arrow Lake

Meteor Lake has been delayed a year. I'm getting it when eventually released, sticking with a 10700K chip until then.

A 13900KS is very close to 1000€ here, so going from 13700kf to 14900ks for 1000€ and 0-10% gaming performance boost is one of the worst deals in a long time, ½-1 year later the 15900k is getting released on a better node and a fresh socket. Hopefully you use it for more then gaming.

This isn't Meteor Lake, its Raptor Lake Refresh. You can even see that in the CPU-Z screenshot. Meteor Lake is likely not coming to desktop, only laptop. Apollo Lake is the next desktop architecture.

Another trash power hog, waiting for Zen 5 myself 8700X or 8700x3D.

13th gen are power hogs if you don't tweak the voltage I agree (they are overvolted out of the box), but once the voltages are dialed in, then Raptor Lake is actually power efficient. My CPU can do 5.7ghz all core boost on air cooling with HT disabled at 1.25v for instance with efficiency cores enabled and running at default speed, which is 4.3ghz. 14th gen with DLVR is actually supposed to help correct the overvolting out of the box problem that 13th gen had, which is why they should run cooler, be more power efficient and also achieve higher clocks.

Lol wait for 14700k vs 7600x gaming tests, it will be a massacre ( not on HUB though).

It does not seem to much faster than 13700k.

13700k is already close to 7800x3d.
