What about DDR4 Support ? Are we going to see laptops with DDr4

We wont see DDR4 outside of higher end platforms until Skylake.

This is all well and good... but when will we start seeing the desktop variants? Perhaps I read this article wrong? I guess what I am most interested in reading is if intel will launch the desktop versions along side a new chipset.

Would be nice for most people if they used the same socket if theyre not going ddr4.

Soldered BGA garbage that will throttle

Upto an additional 1.5 hours battery life. Nice!

+4% in Productivity pretty much says it all when it comes to desktop users.
someone remind me, what was the hype about Broadwell...
uhmm now I remember - Skylake!

I saw some news that Skylake will be released this year too, only mainstream LGA1151 along with LGA 1150 Broadwell line, Skylake-e LGA2011 will be ~ 2017.
Noisiv maybe "hype worthy" L4 cache 128mb for gpu & probably higher OC due to smaller process and of course cooler.
and I agree, Skylake or Cannonlake is really worth mentioning 🙂

Intel never made REAL mobile i5.
But till now there were some real i7 in mobile.
Main change with Broadwell is that there are only i3 & Pentium Cores.
Another difference now is L3 cache, it ranges from 2 to 4MB. While 1st generation mobile i7s had 6MB.
But it is really good to see that intel manages to somehow squeeze additional 1.5hour of battery life from same TDP.
Well, at least iGP does now provide some performance. Hope their drivers can use that to display something.

On the other hand, this slow progression has meant that even older platforms can keep up quite nicely. I haven't changed my mobo and CPU in ages (5 years, to be precise), and they're still quite agile, both in everyday use and in gaming. Saved a ton of money.
Of course, I'd definitely like to experience the excitement of a Core2Duo-type quantum leap in the CPU sector, but the lack of pressure to upgrade is a definite silver lining here, especially since I've been short on cash lately.

What exactly would a leap in CPU performance actually bring? The best looking games on the market are all still GPU bound especially now with 4K. It won't do anything and the entire market is shifting towards mobile devices, which is where Intel is clearly driving it's R&D funds.

wonder when the 'K' versions will arrive, i'm looking forwards to my 1st i7.

meh where are desktop cpu??? those are all laptop/low power cpu.
I need the new chipset to come out that support DDR4 on motherboard that arnt extreme edition,as i not going down that root again.
I want DDR4 Mobo so i can get ddr4 ram to go with i7 4790k cpu unless there is a i7 5790k or something that comes out running 4ghz base clock speeds.
