You are acting like ryzen is some kind of miracle. In aus the 1800x is $659 compared to the $459 price of the i7 7700k, an absolute rip off for gaming, and the amd 7900x is $799, the exact same price as the 7820x with the same number of cores and significantly higher overclocking potential and gamjng performance, plus the threadripper motherboards are way more expensive. The only thing amd has to offer is the budget ryzen cpus and they can't even compete with an i5 in gaming, so depending on what you are doing, they are either overpriced and poorly performing chips for gaming, or a good budget chip for everything but gaming.
Agree^ 8700k is gonna make some ryzen lovers think twice....Can't wait till the Boss has one to benchmark. https://media.giphy.com/media/SGBWuxw5h5UGI/giphy.gif

When it comes to games that like more cores/threads, Ryzen 5 can surpass Kaby Lake's i5. Coffee Lake's i5 though, I wouldn't be surprised if these will beat Ryzen 5 in these situations.

you do realize 8700k is 6core/12......it's going to rip the head off of Ryzen..... got to love competition though!

Emille said that Ryzen CPUs can't compete with an i5 in gaming, I was replying to that. Ryzen 5 can compete with Kaby Lake i5, but Coffee Lake i5 will likely beat Ryzen 5. It's not all about the top end/8700K.

"The 10 year old q6600 vs the 7700k the difference is smaller than I expected." That's funny because I had a Q6600 (LGA 775 I believe), and I currently have an i7 7700k rig. The difference between the two is quite noticeable and could even be called astonishing. Even just for general usage. Benchmarks and quantitative or inferential stats only tell part of the story. There is a qualitative component that is not measured by numbers, but by feeling. So if you're saying your 7700k feels barely better than a 10 year old Q6600 - I would submit to you that you have a problematic Kaby Lake proc.

That i3 8100 looks awesome for a budget 144hz overwwatch pc

i3-8350K with base clock of 4 GHz and overclocking enabled...Some people think Intel are stupid and they ran out and bought ryzen off the rip! 3 months from now.....they'll regret it when an i3 outperforms it....much less the 8700k

They moved the launch from 2018 Q2 to nearly 2017q3 , ryzen sure lit a fire under intels ass.

I'm pretty interested in both i7 8700K (for myself) and i3 8100 (for my sister), they're both gonna be huge upgrades over my current Phenom II X4 and my sis' Core 2 Duo. xD Upgrading these 2 has been long overdue, but I feel that it was worth waiting for Intel to change their mainstream tiers.

My next upgrade will be an AMD, just because it's CPUs are on the same level of Intel's and the competition is good for everyone, unless I happen to have a need that's not addressed by an AMD CPU.

The difference is big, but one needs to really think of how old the Q6600 is at this point. It's 10 years old and still good enough for general usage, as well as some modern games. A Q6600 is alot more usable today than an Athlon XP or Pentium IV were back in 2007.

Ok makes me wonder if there are going to be any 6core laptop processors for gaming and workstation based usage. Intel needs to compete in the mobile market as well as desktop.

Although I wouldn't buy from Intel again, I'm curious to see their reaction to Ryzen.
You're missing out on some serious performance.

Im not going intel again for a long time. Going 8 core thread ripper setup. I only game 95% of the time. But i build my rigs to last 3-5 years at least.
