Can already feel the smell of crossfire.

So they thing they make a profit selling less cards for more? Let's keep it really simple then... 1x GTX880 for €600,- or 2x GTX888 for €425,- Cheaper will automaticly sell better, giving them more profit selling it for less.

I was just thinking something about Multi-Gpu myself. This would be the perfect time for Nvidia/AMD to both promote SLI/Crossfire. Drop the prices on certain cards, and promote multi-gpu. Boost driver performance even more than now, and work on squashing even more bugs for multi-gpu modes.

They are talking about current generation products though. But sure cheaper will always sell more in the end. But too cheap will not let them break even or gain profit.

Here we go again... :bang:

Show me a game worth playing that taxes my 660ti/i5 and I might consider an upgrade. As of right now these console ports don't put a dent in this card. I used to have to have the newest at release...Now it's just totally unnecessary and a waste of money for me as the cost/perf ratio is nil.

about the discredit of the bitcoin you can found 290X for 150€ / 200€ in second hand (have just read the ad searching for an APU 2nd hand to make an HTPC)... just a bit more than a R7 260 new... anyway if you look closer, the new AMD APU and intel core have enough GPU power to do most of task you can demand to a PC (even play). so lot less demand on "normal" GPU wich is the main volume of sale. add to this that tablet and phablet grab a lot of the client who were using their computer to check mail and go on the net (even my old mom can and use a tablet 🙂 ). less PC, less mass GPU and you got their -40%

It might be a double-whammy as a result of people offloading their bitcoin mining hardware. Not only do you have people no longer buying the cards for bitcoin mining, but becuase they're selling off their hardware people who would have bought a new card are getting good deals on second hand cards... possibly. This is
in here: -bitcoin are now taxable and are subject to declaration -less bitcoin by computation -electricity cost have rise +20% in less than 2 year this is the main 3 reason why most small farm stop in here, wich is good for 2nd hand hardware 🙂

Dumping way to many new cards on market. Games still not reason to upgrade. Games are more and more dumbdown version badly ported to PC. Its not only bitcoin thats bull****. The hardware makers and the game developers helping to destroy there own market and they don't even realise or on denial. Manufactors should work more together instead trying to destroy the competion to survive or safe the PC as gaming platform.

After people realize that these "next gen" consoles are seriously weak and there is no need to upgrade your GPU's as long as you brought a mid-high end card in the past three years your fine for 1080p gaming 😉

Honestly, when you're still selling your cards at their launch price, you're not gonna hold interest. Imho, a mediocre gaming card like the 770 should be selling for about 220-250. The 780 would be respectable at 350, and the ti would be okay at 400-450. Maybe that's "too low" for them, but I'm not giving the greedy mothertruckers my money right now. Especially when the next gen is about to drop too.

To me the only people who need to upgrade at this point are the people with at least 1gb cards or older cards.

Its not the publics fault that they make cards for every $30 price range that have not too much difference in performance of the cards They should go back to $50 $100 $200 $300 $400 $500.... see and that fixes that

I can't justify spending $500-$600 per year just to play the latest multiplayer FPS in full HD. I enjoy gaming, but not enough to pay $500-$600 per year maintaining the upper-tier state of the art especially when there are so few games I am interested in. Other than battlefield 4, there is literally nothing else I am interested in games-wise. There hasn't been a strategy game like command and conquer or world in conflict that has interested me in quite a few years and I haven't really been interested in any of the latest titles to buy them at launch. I have no idea what the margins are on GPUs....seems like it would be pretty low. Has to be pretty expensive to produce board with billions of transistors on them.

Any intelligent merchant would've predicted this last year during the Bitcoin GPU craze. That was always going to a temporary customer-base, no surprises at all.

Maybe it'd help if they stopped releasing 4-5+ cards in each entry-segment and instead made 1 low-end, 1 mid-end and 1 high-end card...and then keeps those cards until next generation is released, they could slash production costs then and maybe drop prices a bit also in the process and consumers did not have sift through the jungle that it is these days to fing the card they want...it is just crazy how many versions of essentially the same card is being released.

I know right. Im sick of seeing stupids amount of the same gtx chip. How may variations are there of the 780 now, each which only offer the same or slightly (slight to the extent of being pointless) overclock.

I agree, too many versions which are the same card at the core, and to add to that, the high end end cards have become way too expensive. I would be very happy if this trend stops and prices go down a significant bit, but I doubt it...

I still have no reason to upgrade my 570 gtx and I run everything at 1920x1200 2x aa/16af max settings. Computer equipment is the worse investment anyone can make. I only purchase/upgrade new items when it is needed. From the looks of it I might have the 570gtx a few more years being most games just console ports.
