Thanks Gigabyte, now I know why my GA-AX370-Gaming K7 was such a POS. Would have been nice if even 1/4 of your of X299 achievements went to the X370 K7 instead.

Gigabyte are also known to bait and switch. They send good spec boards to reviewers and over time, new revisions may come with sub-par (cheaper) components.

I switched from Gigabyte to MSI with my latest build and Im glad i did for that reason. Do you know how common it is and if a lot of board makers do it, or is Gigabyte really notorious for it? Their quality seems to have slipped and they even use fewer power phases than comparably priced MSI boards.

Nah, among well known companies MSI has a lot of failing rate in mobo department from my experience. Next is Gigabyte. ASUS/Asrock are by far the best for me. I won't comment about Gigabyte lowering material quality with newer revisions. As long as it works, I don't really care. I trust them.

Well if their first version has 6 power phases and all Japanese capacitors, and they release a new version right after that sucks, it bothers me even if it works. I want to get what i pay for.

But x299 is a disaster for overclocking? I am getting mixed messages here.

How do you get to World record OC class? Yeah, by LN2. By delidding and LN2. By pumping huge amounts of current through chip in suicide run... LN2 + delid cares little about TDP/heat issues. If board burns out, there is next one. Suicide run is called that way for reason, you'll likely get paperweight afterwards.

With open loop cryogenic cooling, you could keep the offending overheating components cool long enough to overclock. Doesnt mean itll work in an actual users PC at home without the same treatment. How long do you think they will last in real world use even if you do get it to overclock, but its cooking itself?

Would not buy any Motherboard apart from ROG Asus Rampage Extreme. You get what you pay for. However Gigabyte GPU's are pretty good, always had high Asic on mine.
