Not bad!

Impressive gains in some titles, very disapointing gains in others... namely the ones that actually needed the extra performance, aka microsoft flight simulator 2020... only a 20% performance gain over the 2080 ti at 4k, thus still a loooong shot from 60 fps. Also only a 17% gain over the 2080 ti in witcher 3 at 4k - doesn't bode well for cyberpunk 2077 !

Pretty much as expected. ninja edit: IF the 3090 does not do 120+ fps on dx12u across the board @ UHD4K, it's not worth it and it's not worth my time.

Same as usual isn't it, game engines need to scale better and the CPU limited nature of some of them won't be easily improved on although the D3D12 update for FS2020 should make for a enticing re-benchmark later on for how well they managed to improve over D3D11 🙂 (Which hopefully makes for a solid implementation and utilization of said API.)

Server burning on fire!

With those minimal differences, I doubt 3070 can beat 2080ti. Nvidia overhype champion of 2020!!! Give me 3090 and rdna2 now, I'll pass 3080, ez.:D Thanks for the review Hilbert. Great job as always!

If 42 fps was cpu limited, then why is it getting 50 fps at 1080p? Yeah, that doesn't add up buddy... the 42 fps is a gpu bottleneck at 4k. And rather unimpressive tbh.

Can definitely see why NV pushed for fast memory, allows for great framerates above 60fps in the high resolutions (high refreshrate users though, looks like Ampere is a bit... odd?) That power usage though, oh my god it's going to be unbearable in summer.... The amount of heat (despite it being well cooled) it dissipates is insane! If it's one thing I told myself after having a hot GPU is I'll never go for a high TDP card again. So.. we've finally got decent performance... but the cost is high power usage and heat... :'(

It's weird, hot hardware's review basically made me think the 3080 was trash. The min. fps difference between 3080 and 2080Ti were very close to each other in 4K. Then I come here and read this review and the 3080 looks amazing. This is why I hate reviews lol. So many different results. As of now, I think I'll hold my 2080 and worry about grabbing a PS5. Review appreciated Hilbert.

So do the fans only slow down at no load or do they turn off completely? That’s been unclear from the 2 reviews I’ve read so far.

Average 30% faster at 1080p, 20% at 1440p, 30% difference in 4k. I suppose 3090 could be up to 50% faster at 4k, 30% at 1440p, and 50% faster at 1080p vs 2080ti. So you pay 1500€ for 3090 instead of 1200€ for 2080ti to upgrade. I am voting for the absolute need of 3080ti. But man so much power consumption together with performance. I cannot classify Ampere as a lot better than Turing. No no no. 1440p resolution is busted! And is the real mainstream at the moment. WTF Ampere.
