With those minimal differences, I doubt 3070 can beat 2080ti. Nvidia overhype champion of 2020!!! Give me 3090 and rdna2 now, I'll pass 3080, ez.:D Thanks for the review Hilbert. Great job as always!
It will beat it by 1-2%, enough for them to claim that its "faster".

Impressive cooling results considering power consumption. This does make me worried about AIB cards, as from what we've seen so far, they employ the usual triple-fan coolers. Let's wait and see.

Undying:

Guru3d needs a new server. 😛
Plural, we're running from four ... it's just too much traffic.

We do not know if the NVENC API will support encoding at this time (but we assume it will).
@Hilbert Hagedoorn It does not, the NVEnc is the same one in Turing sadly, that doesn't mean there won't be a way to do it with raw shaders though.

So i bothered to use an excel sheet to compare the performance of the 3080 agains the 2080ti and the 1080ti and at FHD the 3080 is 16% faster in average than the 2080ti, at WQHD it grows to 26% and in 4k it grows again to 33% performance increase in average to the 2080ti. Not bad but also not a game changer like Nvidia wanted people to believe... The card only shows it´s true power at higher resolutions. Compared agains the 1080ti, the card is 42% faster in FHD, 65% faster in QWHD and 84% faster in 4k. Basically a very nice upgrade for the 1000 series owners. The biggest downsides seems to be the high temps and power consumption. And the 12 pin adapter looks really out of place in there... Now it´s time for AMD to show their goods. Hilbert , do you think you can do a little article showing the max memory usage fo the 3080 to see if the 10GBs are enough, please? Great review as always Hilbert!!!

Don't forget guys that newer drivers will probably improve performance even further 🙂

Great review Hilbert. And def agree, killer card! Jensen wasnt exaggerating after all, up to 2x perf of 2080 @4k (actually more in some titles). Looks like my next upgrade once all the price scalping dies down. Hope for an FE but pretty sure Nvidia store will be over-hammered with orders.

He showed a concern and stated at end of the article that 10gb is fine as today but it might become an issue in probably two years time. Personaly i think it will be even sooner than that.

They weren’t advertising it as a game changer vs the 2080 ti, it was the 2080. While the improvement isn’t double like they said it’s still pretty good, especially in RTX performance.

Jeez, the card slamdunk on top of RDR2 at 4K like it was league of legends. 😱

I cannot accept the smallest differences are in the most common resolution of pc nowadays 1440p. As a 1440p v.high refresh gamer, I already banned 3080 rtx. I am waiting for something else. So sad.

Thanks for the review work Hilbert! I really appreciate everything you put into these reviews.

Not bad. It does beat 2080 Ti consistently by a good margin, and this isn't even the top card. Although power efficiency is not impressive. The true gaming elite who play at 720p for max fps may not be impressed with their specific games, though, if some of the 1080p results are of any indication. It's due to the CPU limit, but the true gaming elite will blame the GPU anyway. Microsoft's We-Can't-Program-At-All Simulator gives as hilarious results as expected, with its state of the art DX11 engine.

Should probably get used to it. Most games are going to start getting bottlenecked at those low resolutions.

So do the fans only slow down at no load or do they turn off completely? That’s been unclear from the 2 reviews I’ve read so far.
the DF preview showed the card running without fans spinning, and Hilbert does say Passive mode, which means fans stop in most cases.

Roughly 100% increase over my card, nais.

It turns off at idle.

So I am a victim by owning a 240hz 1440p monitor. I must wait two years more to feel something? That's what are you implying? I am one step away from depression.

Undervolt testing (0,806 V at 1800 MHz) barely any difference in speed, but power usage is around 60W lower! [youtube=o1B4qZFDpYE]

Get the fastest Intel CPU with a liquid hydrogen cooling team to run it, you'll be golden.
