Why would the percent decrease for the same increase between both? Unless you're saying the increase in GDDR6 to 500k-1m, and keep the GDDR5 at the 2000 unit, as a comparison, but i don't understand why anyone would compare something like that. Unless i'm missing something, if you increased the unit price from 2000, to somewhere in the 500k-1m scenario, both of them should decrease in price if from the same manufacturer, the same amount. The only thing that would make this potentially untrue is if the newer technology had less production capacity, in which case the older (GDDR5) technology would decrease more then the newer (GDDR6) technology. This would be the exact opposite of what you're saying.
Buy more chips you get more of a discount on pricing. That was my point. 2000 chips at say $9.00 each is more expensive than 1million chips at $3.00 each. That was my point. I really can't make it any clearer than that without being long winded.

I get that, i just don't understand why you're comparing apples and oranges. By that logic i could claim that GDDR6 is cheaper then GDDR5, taking a 1-buy sample of 1Gb GDDR5 at say $20, vs GDDR6 1Gb of 2000 for $10.79 each Unless you have proof that when you increase the amount sold of both GDDR6 and GDDR5 to the same amounts, then your statement of:

When you factor in say 500,000.00 to 1,000,000.00 unit cost I am sure the per unit price tumbles and you are looking at a 10-15% price increase from Gddr5 not 30-50%.
Is comparing apples and oranges. Because again anyone then can come in here and claim that GDDR5 is more expensive then GDDR6 if you compare a 10-unit buy to a 10 million unit buy, and anyone here can claim that GDDR6 500% more expensive then GDDR5 if you compare compare a 1-unit GDDR6 buy to a 100K unit GDDR5 buy. Heck, i'm sure you could find the sweet spot and say that both cost exactly the same if you figured out how many units to buy from both of them to have the same unit price. Hence why it doesn't make sense to compare it that way, it gives you no information and doesn't make any statement of prices vs eachother. You can't randomly claim that a GTX 1060 6GB is 1% more expensive then a GTX 1060 3GB simply because you bought 10,000 GTX 1080 6GBs and got a discount for bulk pricing, but are not taking into consideration the 3GB bulk pricing, only the singular pricing. It doesn't work that way.

This is not DDR4 I am talking about. Was only talking about GDDR6. Ram prices didn't effect me because I already build systems before all that bs. So I can laugh personally and do so every day.
People don't buy GDDR as spare components, only industry does, so we don't easily know the price fluctuations there, but considering DDR, GDDR, and HBM are all produced in the same factories, the manufacturers wouldn't have had any reason to mysteriously leave GDDR outside of the artificial price hike. Saying it doesn't affect you is nonsense. You'll get a new video card or build another PC one day, and nothing would have ensured the prices recovered by then. On the other hand, the high prices slowed down gaming PC sales and development, which would affect the component manufacturers and software developers before long. Dunno if you have friends who game as well, but if you do, maybe one of them would have needed to build a new PC, but couldn't due to the ridiculous RAM prices. If you have a PC hobby, you should want the PC world to stay healthy. Specific component manufacturers willing to hurt the whole world for a quick buck is not a healthy sign.

I do not like jokes like that. Prices are per chip and 1GB capacity. 1GB GDDR5 at 8Gbps costs $6,864. 1GB GDDR6 at 13Gbps costs $9,253. That's mere $2,389 more per 1GB. I intentionally increased it to $3 as table shown that 13Gbps is cheaper than 12Gbps chip. Therefore costs of putting 8GB of GDDR6 instead of GDDR5 is actually only 8 * $2,389 = $19,112 higher than using GDDR5. I think you kind of overlooked last word in text you quoted 🙂

Not really, I didn't mean the material costs, but what the manufacturers will charge extra. I can relate that you don't like such jokes, since most of the time we find ourselves in them becoming the truth.

Then, I do agree. I wrote it because I wanted to show that such increase in price does not really increase manufacturing cost much. And that on top of it bandwidth benefit is not easily ignored. Yes, AIBs will charge extra for new thing, they always do. But they do not have to.
