I honestly don't see what any gamer sees in HL2, I found it to be a tedious & arduous game to endure... I'd easily rate HL2 at less than 5/10: far less than any CoD/Halo/FarCry/KillZone game that I've ever played :3eyes: I'll give the next HL game a try, but I'm seriously not expecting much from it after playing HL2.
No disrespect buddy bu t if you hate HL so much maybe you should stay out of this thread,for me it doesen't matter which engine they use HL3 is a game that everyone would love to see even with the old one...

valve: just finish the HL story. run it on the episode 2 engine if you really can't be arsed to work on it. Focus on an involving story that ties up all the loose ends that you opened in the previous 3 releases like what happens now the gnome is in space 😉, and what happens at the VERY end of ep2.. just tie up the story and then you can work on your next surgeon simulator, TF3, or l4d3 or you next fancy re-releasing title!

Valve is a privately owned company with Newell biggest stake holder. If it was a publicly traded co with him a minority shareholder, he would be out on his ass for neglecting a massive money earning opportunity like HL3.
And we would have Half Life 3, 4 and 5 out within half a decade. No one wants another EA and not being subject to shareholders whims is the only thing keeping Valve from being them. - And people, stop responding to the flamebait, no one uses words like "fanboy" unless they're just there to troll.

from what i understand newel isn't saying that HL3 isn't ever getting made. he's saying that the people who worked on HL1/2/2ep1/2ep2 might not nessesarrily be really in to making a HL3 so instead of forcing them to buckle down and do a project they don't want to do he's letting them explore other area's. they may have been hired as level designers or something for Half Life but after a few half life's they wanted to explore different projects/area's and that's what he let them do. atleast that's what i'm getting out of it, it's phrased a bit vaguely imo.
That's exactly what this is. If a team inside Valve wanted to start development on HL3 they could have at any time. None of them really see a point thus it's not being made. Gabe isn't holding anyone back from doing anything.

HL3 is on hold because it's Valve's backup plan for saving the company in the event that Steam loses popularity

lol I would like a half life 3, just to see how much they could put in it with todays tech on another note Gabe is getting kind of old now(51). and I think he mind is kinda going................ I wounder what happens to valve when he passes on.....

Sad to say it, but Valve was actually smart for abandoning the Half-Life series. They had one last chance to get out a game in say 2009 (because by then the "linear shooter" was quickly becoming passe), but instead decided to pump out L4D2 only one year after the first L4D (yeh that touchy subject again -lol). So now with every passing year, Valve is in a very bad spot, not because they have limited resources or anything (duh), but because they have to make a vastly superior modern game or else everyone will be pissed off (more than they are pissed off waiting). Anyway, Valve just doesn't do 3's, must be some bad karma or something with them. Then again, maybe Valve has been working on a new killer-of-all-engines engine all this time, which takes them 6-10 years. So perhaps once that's done there will be a burst of 3's on it (Half-Life, Portal, Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress). Gabe chance! 😉

This, although i would like to play any new HL game that comes out as they were very well made. However if valve were too never make another HL game again then i wouldnt really care. The end of Episode 2 were her dad gets killed will be etched into my brain forever, very immersive indeed. They will probably save HL3 for there Steam box or whatever its called. Killer games sell hardware by the bucket load.

I want HL3, and really, who gives a flying **** about it not being like Halo, or CoD, or all the other god awful crappy games like them? They should just do there own thing. Video games have been completely unappealing to me for the last several years because of all the BS companies pulled. I will not buy games that have day 1 DLC/patches I will not buy games that are released buggy, and unfinished I will not buy games that are copy/paste sequels I will not buy games that have microtransactions I will not play free 2 play games I will not buy games with bull**** DRM like always online I will not buy Call of Duty rip offs And I will not buy games that focus more on multiplayer than singleplayer EVER!

Well HL2 got us all to install Steam and look what happened with that lol, HL3 + Steambox would force everyone to install SteamOS which might be a good thing( large install base )
