LocoDiceGR:

Installed after DDU, everything is fine.....so close to the big one.
Hi, LocoDiceGR, as you have a 380 I have a question for you. Is power efficiency to on working for you?. For mi is not working for more than a year. The problem is that with it to off I see voltage peaks to 1.206v higher than the max dpm 7 voltage of 1.137v. I have tested with older drives and with power efficiency to on this is not happening. I have no idea if this is happeinig with other gpus like polaris. I have no idea if you are driver tester or how you know the big one driver is close, but do you know if this problem is solvedw with that driver?. Edited: you can see in this image the voltage peaks with out the power efficiency off, it is using more than 1.137v for DPM2 clock with a 36% gpu usage in a low demanding game: https://www.overclock.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=229150&d=1541322746 With an older 16.3 driver with power efficiency to on you can see for the same game that there are no voltage peaks: https://www.overclock.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=229156&d=1541326298

HWInfo 64 and GPU-z are both working for me showing GPU Utilization working.
What GPU and Windows version are you using ? I am using an RX 480 8GB with Windows 10 Pro 64bit Build 17134 , and the GPU Usage graph is stuck at 0% in Afterburner , HWinfo64 and GPU-Z . As I said in the initial post , this seems to be a driver related problem , since rolling back to 18.9.3 fixes the issue. Take my next question with a grain of salt : Might this issue be related to the fact that I don't have the October update ? Since as far as i know 18.9.3 is the latest driver version before "Support for Windowsยฎ 10 October 2018 Update" was introduced.

Ahh...that is a come and go issue with monitoring programs with 480/580 you have to wait until the developers of the monitoring programs fix it. Yes it is due to a change in the driver, however the 3rd party software developer has to update the software. It has happened before. I am on Vega 64 but do not have my Polaris GPUs installed at the moment.

Wow Radeon Settings is fast & furious! UI from 18.11.1 is silky smooth, good job AMD!;)

warlord:

Why do you care about 3rd party monitoring. Radeon overlay is fixed. Wattman is working flawlessly.
The glory days of Afterburner has come and gone and now everything comes built in with the AMD driver package.

Well currently only using Afterburner for undervolting my gpu. -75mV and stable gaming with stock clocks is like dream for my energivore gpu. Wattman cannot edit my voltage for any reason, reverts the value.

just updating the driver or always doing a cleaninstall (with DDU)?

Always DDU safe mode first. Five minutes can save your life.

anyone else? is it safe to update?
If you are on Windows 10, then it is safe to update driver. (Everything feels safe in comparison to that what may come to your system w/o asking via WUpdate.)

with rx580 is normal than in windows desktop every 1 minute the gpu goes 100% for a second an then back to idle? every exact minute, i noticed now in gpu-z not strictly related to this drivers i mean

Check in Task Manger which process uses the GPU. If you mean Explorer.exe, I didn't noticed such behavior on my end.

edit: not gpu100%, i notice only frequencies goes 1300mhz every minute for a second or two than back to real idle no .exe involved, looking task manager seems to be the desktop window manager dwm.exe but not sure, gpu load goes max 2-3%

Awesome drivers these ones are. AMD finally fixed the HDMI sync issue affecting my rx480. It would randomly loose a signal and screen would turn blank or artifact with screen garbal. These drivers have fixed after the last several have been broken.

Guess you are right . Just checked the release notes of the upcoming HWinfo64 version and it says : "Fixed monitoring of GPU usage on AMD Polaris series with later drivers." Now I only need to wait for Afterburner to fix their monitoring before I can safely install the latest AMD Driver ๐Ÿ˜€

You can safely install it right now.

Not true. Just enable unified GPU usage monitoring.

We'll see what is come and gone a few years later ๐Ÿ˜‰

I already had enabled unified GPU usage monitoring when I previously stated that with 18.11.1 the GPU usage is stuck at 0% in Afterburner

Then you're running on old OS version with previous WDDM model. Newer drivers are targeted at new WDDM introduced with for the latest October OS update. OS and driver WDDM version mismatch is the reason of what you're seeing, so either upgrade OS or downgrade driver to make them match. Alternately, you may disable low-level hw interface entirely in MSI AB and disable unified GPU usage monitoring, this will roll back to ADL's built-in GPU usage monitoring path (slower but still works, you'll also loose extended low-level functionality such as full voltage control in this case). For HwInfo you can also make it use ADL only via compatibility properties.

I hope that means that AB will still at least try to support Radeons even after all that drama a few weeks/months ago :P

So many of our users talks about them like: 'this one is really Good' ๐Ÿ˜€ So it get's Installed & everything is OK. Destiny 2 -> checked for 1.3h and this one is a little better in terms of Power Efficiency than 18.10.2 WHQL
