I uninstalled my previous driver 461.40 to install this one, the installation went through till the end and then failed, and now it looks like I can't install any video driver on my Windows 10. Any NVIDIA dispaly driver I try to install now fails with the following error in Event Viewer: Event ID 1002: The program drvinst.exe version 10.0.19041.662 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel. Process ID: 108c Start Time: 01d6fd62e98a17b3 Termination Time: 27 Application Path: C:\Windows\System32\drvinst.exe Report Id: 402e147d-3c59-4428-8de7-c43fd5e69d5b Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID: Hang type: Unknown Other drivers for other devices that I tried to uninstall and reinstall worked fine, the issue appears only with the NVIDIA display drivers. My windows 10 is Version 20H2: OS Build 19042.789 . I have an AMD motherboard and a 2080. What I already tried (out of despair): - Tried to redownload the drivers - Tried to reinstall the previous drivers 461.40 - Tried to install the dev drivers 465.21 - Tried to install normal and DCH versions of the drivers - Used DDU 18.0.3.6 multiple times from normal and safe mode to cleanup - Checked "SFC /scannow" and "DISM /Online /Check-Health" - Tried to run the NVIDIA drivers installer as Administrator - Disabled my Kaspersky antivirus - Disabled the network - Ran an antivirus full scan, tried other antivirus scans online and offline - Uninstalled the AMD chipset drivers - Checked Windows Update - Tried to let Windows Update to install his drivers - Tried to force install the drivers from Device Manager - Force-removed all NVIDIA drivers from DriverStore - Reset BIOS settings to defaults - Performed a disk check Each time I tried I got the above error in the Event Viewer and the drivers installation failed. The last time I was able to update the NVIDIA drivers was on the 26th Jan with driver 461.40 that installed without issues. I understand that this is not specifically related to this drivers version, but the issue started when trying to install these drivers so I am posting it here. At this time I am using the "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" as display driver. Please Help if you come up with anything else for me to try.

I really wish they would fix detroit become human, I have a 3090 and only getting like 50 percent gpu usage with drops down to 20 fps with stutters and choppy performance. Its literally the only game on my system with this problem.
data/avatar/default/avatar14.webp
Substantial framerate loss across games I play with this driver. (BFV, Warzone, Black Ops Cold War, Fortnite) EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING (10G-P5-3897-KR) Windows 10 Pro (19042.789) LG 34UC89G-B 34" 21:9 Curved 144 Hz G-Sync IPS Monitor Also, the windows built-in "xbox gamebar video capture" feature doesn't work with this driver.. it will capture audio and just a video still image... Roll back to 460.97, and the gamebar video capture feature works properly.

Do a dism repair in elevated command prompt and then sfc /scannow Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth failing that, grab the 19042 iso or install assistant and do a in place upgrade (repair) to correct anything messed up by microsofts update, the update files themselves are fine, but the procedures can break the os if/when there is jank involved.

I was able to successfully install the drivers 461.51 from Safe Mode, and when rebooted to normal Windows the drivers were still installed, so this solves my issue.

Yeah, you post that for 999 times and people still will ask for driver fix, it's not even funny at this point. Game is garbage in terms of quality on PC. There are still random CPU spikes, and audio crackling problems.
data/avatar/default/avatar32.webp
I too had to install this driver in safe mode, when I tried "normal" mode my computer would Blue screen: This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x3F5A80) Bugcheck code: 0x4A (0x77591CFC, 0x2, 0x0, 0xFFFFF903F06D3B80) Error: IRQL_GT_ZERO_AT_SYSTEM_SERVICE file path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

@Astyanax @ManuelG There is a bug in the setup/ driver update, at least in my system. For at least the latest 10 drivers, not sure, the file nvcpl.dll in C:\Windows\System32 is not updated, I have to copy it manually over the old version, and the file is not used by any other process, so it should be copied by the setup.

must have been a file in use situation on your system, the PendingFileRenameOperations should have been employed to correct this.

https://imgur.com/a/4dPztF1 it is in the system32 fodler And no the file is not being used, I copy it immediately after the setup every time with no issues
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/273/273678.jpg
Theres nothing special about the copy method used, its the standard driver install method that is initiated by the INF, and just because you could immediately copy the file doesn't mean it wasn't in use due to a race condition or file handle lock at the time of install.

Why? 🙂
Why not, it gets better results, not miles better but it is free performance that you get with a slider, effortlessly. Yes it may be 3% but there is no drawback, why not take the 3%?
