The Meme is dead, long live the meme. There really seems to be a hotfix driver release after almost every every WHQL release at this point lol

Are Nvidia trying to copy Intel's old tick > tock release with their drivers now? WHQL > HOTFIX > WHQL > HOTFIX Maybe their release model needs to change. AMD seem to be releasing more consistent drivers, plus adding in a ton of features and at least their UI looks like it was made in 2018 and not 2001.

Thank you for pointing it out. Clean 398.86 version in case anyone needs. Branch: r398_75-7 - 398.82 r398_75-8 - 398.86

I immediately did a double take when I saw the post.. I thought to myself "no way is there ANOTHER HOTFIX" I was wrong. This is no longer a joke, it's a reality. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yeah. It would be so much better if people would have to live with the g-sync bug for another month or so. We should start a petition. "We don't want quick bug fixes." Of course you're not forced to update the driver, but common logic be damned. It seems that in here, bug fixes are bad and made fun of. GJ.

Reinstalling driver takes less time than talking about reinstalling it.

The real problem here is, they could have easily squeeze in this beta fix, not that it now needs another beta driver for it. Talk about that bs slogan last minute optimizations for new games lol.

The what problem now? There was a bug. They fixed it and provided a way to get it without having to wait a long time for a driver to go through the WHQL nonsense. I'm not seeing any problem.

Current control panel is vintage edition ๐Ÿ˜‰ Also I think it's more like tick - tick - tick - tick...

This G-SYNC fix was supposed to be included in the v398.82 WHQL driver but NVIDIA needed to test it more so they held it back and decided to release a hotfix instead. I'm fine with that as it is better than having to wait another 2-3 weeks for the next certified driver. I really don't see how anyone can take issue with this; if you would rather wait until the next WHQL driver which will include that fix then that is, of course, your choice. For everyone else who has been waiting months for this fix then they have a driver they can install now instead of having to wait longer for the next driver.

Well, as long as I'm a PC gamer, I don't think I will ever recover from my OCD. I blame Nvidia drivers. I didn't say stop though. ๐Ÿ˜€

from the geforce forums:
https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4693 well a link wouldn't have hurt anybody, so here it is... I'm just installing it now, but I have my doubts about it, it may be a beta kind of trial and error fix, since both the drivers download page and Mr. Guzman here are silent about it. Edit: Yep, juuust as I suspected... 398.86 really "fixes" Windowed G-Sync, but only as much as killing dwm.exe does it. Meaning the driver can now properly engage G-Sync on its' own even after a reboot, however it will still have stuttering/microlag, however you want to call it. So Windowed G-Sync is tecnically fixed, but practically it's not. To elaborate, windowed G-Sync causes a weird frame time inconsistency issue, which causes perceivable microlag every few seconds, or even more often, depending on the game (not actual fps drops!!). This is NOT happening when running games in exclusive fullscreen mode, however quite a few games don't truly support fullscreen anymore. They don't have to however, since G-Sync officially supports windowed mode, thus we're not obliged to play in exclusive fullscreen anyways... which boils down to this feature still being broken. Games Total War: Warhammer II (Campaign map benchmark) and War Thunder (Tank battle benchmark) can both be used to reproduce the above behavior.
Curious if anyone can confirm.

What the hell is "microlag"? People should really stop trying to explain themselves with new words.

Issue is easy to replicate. Install Gsync pendulum demo and observe it or the "show pattern" test. There's frame skipping.

LOL It wouldn't hurt them to give us a new control panel though? AMD have given their customers a lot of cool features that years ago and still to this day we need other applications for. Radeon Chill is a great example, and their radeon overlay is excellent and basically makes MSI AB and RTSS obsolete. Though WATTMAN could do with some more work from what I have heard. Unless Nvidia gives us a massive improvement in performance over my current GTX1080 (around 50%-60%+ @ 1440p) I will be waiting for the next AMD cards. Though I may be waiting a while ๐Ÿ™

Yep new Radeon Crimson / Adrenalin drivers, features and new UI were quite good, had a chance to use them for a while when I still had an R9 290. Older Catalyst drivers had "vintage" control panel too but once Catalyst was replaced with Crimson UI was revamped. I'd love to switch back to AMD, hope next gen of AMD cards do better versus NV than Vega did. Vega seemed solid but there just wasn't enough incentive to choose Vega over a corresponding GeForce card. Plus not enough of an upgrade over my current GPU to warrant a purchase anyhow.

Of course, but almost every WHQL being immediately followed by a hotfix (or sometimes two) is pretty hilarious.

Should I still update to the hotfix drivers or stick to latest WHQL if I don't use G-Sync at all?
