Congrats DICE.

Yeah and no 7900/280x support for now is just great...

I still think I will see a performance increase. Maybe not 20% maybe not even 10% but at least its FREE performance. Also the game is STILL extremely CPU limited, even with my i7 4770K at 4.5GHz and my 7970 at 1150/1650 overclocks I still see my CPU usage spiking to 100% across a lot of my cores/threads and GPU usage goes down to around 88% and spikes up to 99% in these situations I should see a performance boost. Also remember Mantle is being tacked onto the game that has been plagued with bugs/glitches and consistent problems since launch which have had to be fixed. Then add on another API to the mix as well. I want a game that is specifically built using Mantle from the start not tacked on 3 months later.

Where did you read that? They used a 7970GHz in there tests so how can it not be supported!? Also the 280X is basically just a a 7970GHz with a new name. All GCN AMD GPU's will work with Mantle. Why would they support an entry level APU and not their current and previous top cards?

HERE: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/news/view/bf4-mantle-live/ Its because 14.1 beta drivers wont provide mantle support for these cards. also R9 270/270x wont support it now...

AMD communicated that: "Mantle performance for the AMD Radeon. HD 7000/HD 8000 Series GPUs and AMD Radeon. R9 280X and R9 270X GPUs will be optimized for BattleField 4 in future AMD Catalyst releases. These products will see limited gains in BattleField 4 and AMD is currently investigating optimizations for them as they are the next highest priority products."

so what driver did they use in the bf4 7970 mantle test, a magic one?

Well not the one that is being released. Then again, AMD might have delayed today's driver release to fix stuff like that, as they would be bound to get a lot of heat from the community if only Kaveri and Hawaii would be supported.

for shame!!!

+1 to that, watta****. I'm totally disappointed. They promoted it as GCN ready for all cards all the way from the beginning. Major major let down lol. IT WORKS ON ALL GCN CARDS!!! .!:.1.1 -------> . . . "For now only works on newer R9 series cards" Dude seriously. How the **** can they promote it as being GCN ready for all, and then on launch it only supports 290/290x WTF??? How the **** do you do that lol. If it doesn't support the older GCN cards in the near future then they're scammers.

Lets hope that is true, because that would seriously backfire on them if they supporting only their entry level and enthusiast cards and not their previous high end offerings when all along they said they would.

Thanks Hilbert.

Yeah, Hilbert might have a point. We old GCN card users might still have hope. It would be a major let down and false advertisement to all, lol.

Personally I feel that you do not invest 900 EUR worth of GPUs and 1000 EUR on a CPU and then will game at 1080P. The test would have been far more reliable if it was done at 2560x1440 with one card or Ultra HD with two cards.
That probably depends if your 1080p monitor runs at over 60Hz. The third example jumping from 78.4 to 121.5 is going to make much better use of a 120Hz monitor. Having said that I'm really interested to see what this can do for 290X Crossfire at Ultra HD.

Yeah, it was the same with all BF games since BFBC2 but BF3 and BF4 with the 64 players and huge maps, vehicles etc. it's a huge cpu buster. But I don't think there is any cpu out there who would not suffer from this, especially when huge explosions and stuff happen and you are in the middle of it. :P And I agree with Hilbert, very weird to use a 3960X with 2 290X and test at 1080p lolwut.

im way more excited about the frame pacing updates than about mantle but still mildly excited about seeing what performance gains i can squeeze once the drivers also support 7x series cards. i dont think theres any real doubt about the support, they probably just rushed it to get a january release. however, i dont really get how anyone can complain about a few hundred dollars worth of free performance, even if it's only 10-15% for high-end users. remember what the price tag is for a few extra frames once you're dealing with high-end cards. and calling something free a scam? come on
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/243/243536.jpg
bf4 extremely cpu limited what? the game's highly optimized for cpu imo, is it a one core thrasher that flatlines?, no, hell I bet it doesn't flatline at all even on an OCed i5. the game's cpu demanding, yes, but usage is fine.
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/105/105985.jpg
Sorry but in my tests with a single 780 1080p the 4770k at 4.0 or 4.5 made hardly a difference on frame rates. So to call it cpu demanding is a stretch
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/243/243536.jpg
haha, well I hope you get my meaning cause I get yours, but sure, you want demanding cpu look to recent ubisoft games.

It really does seem to be neat for users with older PCs. I'm eager to see how well a Core 2 Quad and Phenom II X4/X6 will perform with Mantle
