If this chip can do 5ghz with reasonable cooling, as in not anything too expensive water cooling wise, then I may upgrade. I'd even consider 4.8ghz as an upgrade. But I just cant justify an upgrade at this point even on a Z77 platform. Not enough change here. Some awesome looking motherboards though, I will say that.

I'm in too. We can start up the 4790k club.
Or continue to use Haswell thread, since its basically one and the same chip. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=379171 I can ask mod to change the thread title later 🤓
Where do you see this? I know there were rumors about broadwell removing VRM's back but I doubt they would take the memory controller off, especially with a refresh.
yeah it will stick on cpu, its so damn efficient.
Intel also shared some data on how it achieved substantial power savings with Haswell, including using a new stacked power gate for the memory interface that reduced leakage by 100x over Ivy Bridge. Haswell's FIVR (Full Integrated Voltage Regulator) is also a topic of discussion in Intel's ISSCC papers. FIVR ends up being 90% efficient under load and can enter/exit sleep in 0.32µs, requiring only 0.1µs to ramp up to turbo frequencies. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7744/intel-reveals-new-haswell-details-at-isscc-2014
btw Broadwell will use IVR too, otherwise they wouldnt lower wattage further like they did without any tweaks, other then lower 14nm design. Let me paste this video one more time https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=KeDtXucTwRI#t=23 "Broadwell is going to enable 2 types of devices, one you can plug the chip directly into existing systems (z87) and second we will have brand new systems (z97) with a broad new range of.." Directly from INTEL back in September 2013, nvm those China leaks later, but people still believe all the bs floating around the web. Let them clueless monkeys, especially there @ overclock.net xD

I don't know why they ever stopped using solder as the TIM, stupid move.
the price... stupid eco X million of sale = more dividend... ye$$

http://iweb.tms.org/PbF/JOM-0606-67.pdf Solder cracks and forms voids when heated and cooled under a small surface area. I think that combined with their conflict material tracking policy doesn't really allow them to making sweeping changes in materials at the last second.

Interesting.. I will wait for Hilbert's review on this and to pit it against my 24/7 OC of 4.6Ghz that does 3.59min in FryBench x64 on a dirty W7.

5Ghz + and you will have my attention intel, otherwise x99 w/ DDR4 for me..

Yesterday Intel released its faster quad core processor Core i7 4790 (our review here), clocking up-to a boost/turbo frequency of 4 GHz. However roughly in the Computex timeframe you are going to see... Devils Canyon Core i7 4790K will get 4 GHz Base and 4.4 GHz Turbo Clock
look like this might be my new cpu Finally a base clock for 4 ghz it should run circles around my current cpu

Yep not enough change for me staying with what I have for awhile yet.

It's only a quad core

This would be a step backwards for you.

The 4790K have a very nice base and turbo boost clock. Very nice for people that don't overclock. Yes i know people that is never into overclocking but they en up getting the k cpu anyway
usual cause the difference between k and non k is like 20$ but ya I dont OC probably never will, but this cpu looks nice. If i dont wait for skylake i will get this cpu to replace my current one

But... but... all you do is hit up the bios an push the + button a few times 🤓

till you have to start messing with votages. but sure its that simple

Yeah "good news"! I have 4770K and i can run it stable at 4.4Ghz with 1.2V, so if that chip is not some magic chip, then new 4770K will not reach 4.4Ghz because they would be labeled 4790K and sold at higher price. GG marketing.

Don't forget Broadwell-K only 6 months later...

And Skylake-K another 6 or so months after that 😀

One can only wait so many generations. Plus, there's always something new on the horizon. At some point "wait" becomes irrelevant. For me, that point was 2 years ago, but I just didn't jump.

I'll wait for the overclock results, but a raise in stock clock has been sorely need for a while now. Single thread performance still matters a lot in present day games. Spreading out over 6, 8, 10 cores at lower clocks just doesn't do it.

Fixed.... 😀

Mind you that some users are still on LGA 775 boards and CPUs and need an upgrade badly.
