28 pci-e lanes, first card will run at x16, second at x8 then third at x4. The other two higher chips have 40 pcie lanes.

so this could do dual sli and have a dedicated physx card too?

I presume with x8/x8/x4, it could, no?

Dual SLI is four cards ๐Ÿ˜‰ But yeah, 2x at x8 Gen 3.0 and then a x4 for PhysX is possible with 8 lanes left. Without physx or any the dedicated PCIe stuff and two cards it would get x16 / x8

impressive then, would cost around ยฃ550 - ยฃ650 depending on how much you spent on ram /mobo. i'd struggle to keep a 6 core busy though understand witcher3 is near.

Looking at your current config, you have very little to upgrade for man. In fact with your OC your current setup is faster overall.

the 5820k is the sweet spot for me & I'm not complaining about the 28 pci lane, having already tried the crossfire at 8x / 8x I can say that there is no loss of performance

Unless heavily overclocked, I think it will be slower in games than your current setup.

I think the 5820k will be a good clocker (soldering) so a good 4.4 will be easily attainable and it'll be my first extreme setup so no regrets i hope ๐Ÿ˜€

That's exactly what I'm waiting for, the first reviews and the OC and benchmarks they usually include. Although I'd want to still go with the full 40 lanes, because in the years to come I could imagine GPUs soon rising significantly over the x8 PCIe lanes and benefit from the increased bandwidth. Or at least I hope so. Because there's little use in going for 40 lanes and then seeing the mainboards going x8/-/x8/-/x8 just because there's a PCIe ssd or M2 used...

Thats still way to expensive for most people, most people buy in the $200 dollar range according to maximum pc article I read.Even if I had that kind of money to blow I doubt I would go this route. Its good for those kids that have mommy and daddys credit card the rest of us have to build on a budget or stay a few gens behind. On a side note now might be a good time to try Lga 2011 no? Knowing Intel they wont drop the price on any of there older products what am I talking about!?

Depends where are you at. Here in Serbia 4790k goes high as 350โ‚ฌ so it must go down to make place for 5820k.

Well if you think so that everybody that invests in such a platform lives off his or her parents, you're wrong ๐Ÿ™„ I try to invest the money so when others might upgrade again, I can skip a little longer and save some money if I go with maybe 1.5 the interval others upgrade, or double the time. And since I do have the money, I might as well buy myself something I at least hope lasts a few years.

I see a lot of people with current gen CPU (4xxx) wanting to upgrade to these new 5xxx enthusiasm cpus (not just here) I know it's fun to upgrade to the non-mainstream platform but keep in mind that the gain will be very low for the price you gonna pay (I hope you gonna resell your 4xxx platform close to retail price), specially if all you do is play games, browse the internet and encode a video once in a while. This platform is for content producer and for people with money to throw (enthusiasms). TBH the only real gain that is worth the money is if you're currently on socket 775 or on X58 platform, anything more recent than that, specially if overclocked...will not give you much. Just a warning to those without a clue :P
