It is entirely understandable how this problem might have gone undetected during play-testing and the Quality Assurance process; the personnel in both groups were likely either driven into a highly unfocused mental state, or simply passed out at their keyboards from the abject tedium of the so-called gameplay. Being forced to play Starfield beyond a certain amount of time is now the more humane form of water-boarding. Don't doubt me.

With Baldur's Gate 3 available... why would anyone bother with Starfield?

Bethesda should ditch the creation engine, once and for all.

Different people have different tastes and they may dislike BG3 and like Starfield.

I agree completely but that would imply spending money on a new engine and Bethesda seems allergic to that concept...

But they are probably spending a ton of money patching up this buggy, ancient game engine, while getting so poor results. Might as well, just use that money to switch to something that isn't a dumpster fire.

When there is paint drying on walls around the world, why would anyone bother playing Starfield.

Todd Howard and Peter Molyneux should create a videogame studio together.

blows my mind people actually played this game from start to finish. The way people gaslight themselves is fascinating. And I did I tried to play it, wasted almost 8 hours of my life, still pissed about that lol

Except it isn't, as Skyrim suffered from a similar issue on the PS4. The game gradually got more unstable as the player did more and more stuff within the world. Given that Starfield uses the same janky AF engine that Skyrim used (a newer version at least) and given that this issue sounds very much like a known previous issue, it isn't understandable at all. Yes it's understandable that a lazy developer such as Bethesda would miss it because.... well it's Bethesda the company who thinks it's just fine to make money from modders fixing their broken ass games, so it's understandable in that regard at least. From a competent developer though, that has had a similar issue in the past... not so much!

Apparently, Skyrim didn't sell well enough for them to fix their technology.
