I don't care much for Fortnite mostly because I feel burned by Epic during the Alpha years of the game.. but yeah - as a competitive player these types of games definitely tickle my fancy. I learned early on though that there aren't many hardcore comp gamers here on Guru3D. Most people here favor narrative driven games - probably because of the correlation of better graphics and those titles. For me I've logged probably tens of thousands of hours in DOTA/League/Overwatch/CS 1.6/Source/Go/SC2/Siege and the only reason I play any of them is the competitive scene. I usually end up turning down the graphics despite almost always having the latest hardware just to gain a competitive advantage. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
I mean I personally like a wide range of games, anywhere from RPGs to games like Detroit become human. As for fortnite, it's a great game for people who enjoy the comp scene; as a grand master in OW, Fortnite was pretty easy to get into.

I love competitive play, it's what really got me into PC gaming in the first place. I don't mind Fortnite and I can play with my son. Most of the top games my boys play are multiplayer and I actively encourage this. However, kids don't lose gracefully, still working on that...

Am I missing something... Is not Fortnite FTP? Why pay money for something that is free? This has to be why the pay to win/loot boxes are a popular business model.

Something to do with player skins or something I have no idea..... I guess this is why EA are pushing DICE to have skins that you pay money for in the next battlefield.

Only thing you purchase is the campaign or cosmetics such as emotes and skins.

So The Hunger Games concept invented by Suzanne Collins in 2008 is now the favorite game genre by a lot of people
Invented by who and when, pretty sure the book BATTLE ROYALE beat her to the punch by around a decade. 20billion dollars how? No really how is this figure arrived at are we talking pure and only BR style games (yes I know Fortine didn;t start that way but lets face it that is what it has become) like Fornite and Pubg or are we talking about games that happen to just throw a BR style mode in because it is the in thing at the moment, such as the next COD? So BR is the next MOBA ---> Military FPS. I.e someone has some popularity with their game that uses the concept so every man and his dog decides to jump in on the action. Lets not try and do something original lets instead dilute an already piss filled lake with yet more piss? I give it 2 to 3 months before EA announce a BR style game mode for one of their games (most like the next BF game) or a stand alone BR style game.

ooo I can hardly wait to fork over real world money to replace my player skin of brown with patches of brown on with a whole new skin that has some brown, covered in mud but with some hints of brown on it, and if I play real hard maybe I can unlock the desert version which is brown with hints of light brown on it and I see their trench skin is going to be a really interesting brown with very subtle shades of brown and it has a helmet which has a fantastic brown motif, but if you want a truly original skin wait for the forest warfare skin which is mostly brown but it has a few hints of green in it, but not too much because you wouldn't want to over power the brown look of the skin, of course the winter time warfare skins are the real goal for any avid skin collector.... their white before you ask.

It's a shame that this started on ArmA as a mod, and despite all the success that followed, it probably hasn't helped ArmA sales much. I should add that the pace of a typical round of ArmA 3 is a snail's compared to a PUBG or Fortnite session. That probably had a lot to do with it. Still, I wish more people had been drawn into it.

I like playing against people but my taste in competitive games has been out of alignment with the popular genres for a while now.

ive been playing pubg since its beginning in alpha, all i can say is ive been gaming for 25 years, and this is one of the best game ive played despite all his flaws, the gun mechanics are mostly what is keeping me playing it, its a very competitive game, people who stills plays it and there are still plenty playing are pretty good, havent been this addicted to a game since counterstrike 1.3. àas for the battleroyale genre i like it,being multiplayer gamer i could care less about story driven game, i like the fact that you log on you play a game or two and thats it , if you wanna play 4 hours you still can, games are fast enough.

Whiplashwang:

I must be getting old because I absolutely hate Battle Royale games!

Welcome to the club. 😳
What I was thinking, I must be old... although I haven't even tried one yet. Probably give the Battlefield 5 one a go, just because I'm going to buy/install it anyways.

I'm also older and don't like the current battle royale style games either. I think it's a matter of free time for me since the worse you are the shorter you live so its a large time investment to get better. If I had a lot more freetime where I could get my skill up to the top tier of of players I may like Fortnite. As the old poker saying goes "Look Around the Poker Table; If You Can’t See the Sucker, You’re It" - That's how I feel in Fortnite, I'm the sucker.

All I want is a Smash TV remake.
