Thank you very much for the wonderful review.
This sounds like my dream monitor. 43" at 4k is perfect for me even for desktop work as I have a deep desk and sit around 100cm away from the screen. I currently have a Philips 436M6VBPAB I got last black Friday for €200 and am happy with it for the price - although I could do with a higher refresh rate, RBG panel and faster switching between modes with HDR enabled, anything larger is too big for me (it's too bad they don't make 43" TVs with 120Hz+ and VRR that'd be suitable monitor replacements). If it only wasn't that expensive. I hope it will come down in price significantly on prime day or black friday so I can get it.
A couple of questions @Hilbert Hagedoorn :
1. Does the monitor have a proper RGB pixel layout or is it BGR like so many other 43" monitors (including my Philips)?
2. Is there any flickering observable when using G-Sync compatible mode?
3. How far can you extend the lower bounds of the VRR range for G-Sync compatible on this monitor without flickering occuring?
4. My Philips Monitor shows a black screen for several seconds when tasking out of a HDR game (RDR2, Gears5, for example) to the desktop or using the volume controls on my keyboard as the stupid windows volume control OSD seems to steal focus for a second (especially the latter is highly annoying). Is the same with the PG43UQ or is it any better?

like some here i dispute the "not suitable for desktop" thinking. but then it's all relative to the size and scale of what you consider a "desk".
i like having a smaller desk that's clutter-free, incl. monitor. i took the monitor off of my desk back when we went from CRT to LCD and used a gooseneck mount until the screens grew too large. when i first bought a 40" monitor i re-purposed an old stereo rack as a stand and used that until i wall mounted a (thankfully) universal wall-mount.
this Asus has my virtual drool all over it as they are delivering something that's worth the freight.
i like the 27" for that same reason, but it's too small.

"..I could do with a higher refresh rate, RBG panel and faster switching.."
then i would recommend not buying stuff at BF. those are the days where companies/stores push the lower models,
not something that has those features.
-what would you need 120hz on a 4K screen? unless your running multiple cards, it wont happen, i mean just the gpus would cost more than this screen.
-flickering has nothing to do with free/g/vsync, its related to backlight control (PWM below 240Hz) and/or because of BFI to remove motion blur
-did you set the gpu to report content type to the screen? usually the reason for those long pauses/black screen when switching stuff.
(Nv panel->display->adjust desktop color->bottom part of the right page switch to "Desktop programs")

12-13cm in width between my old 34" and new 43"
You right about mounting it instead of using a stand for desktop usage, that is what I ended up with.

So, can i send my liver by mail or the guys from Asus pick it up at my home upon delivery???
Also, i´ve to say i´m surprised by the amount of members who have gigantic screens on their setups!... I love my 34 UW screen but i don´t know if i could live with a 43 screen so close to me... Only one way of knowing for sure...
Great review as always!

I must admit I am quite tempted by this one. All the features it has AND a 43" size looks like a dream monitor to me.
I'm also kind of reassured by all the guys posting pictures with their behemoths on the desk, as that is what I would use it on as well if I got one. I have my 27" Dell on a stand very close to me (~20-30 cm) and it never bothered me. As guys stated, it adds to immersion and I can see all the little details in movies and games.
Even though the price is insane, I usually hold on to monitors for the very least 3 years (mostly 5+). What worries me more, and it's something that only time will bring to light - is the panel quality. I'm so sick of reading "horror stories" with RMAs on super expensive g-sync monitors with AU optronics panels over the years...
In other words, for this price, I would expect absolute quality, or at least very close to that. Just imagine having to go trough RMAs with a monitor of this size (had to change a 27" Dell 5 times about 7-8 years ago, until I got the "right' revision).
Anyway, great review HH!

Lovely screen and a great review.
@alanm @Mineria
I'm a big fan of large screens - can you list your models please? Thanks!

Based on these stats: https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/4a5c1c84 I have no interest in this monitor.
As others have already said, you can get a way better picture for less money - and especially now, the retailers are practically giving away their stock with discounts on teevee's

Agreed, once you tune a big TV to monitor like standards (4:4:4, disable some features like auto-dimming and tweaking the brightness), it's no worse than a 27" monitor. I've been running a 55" C7 OLED (that I got for well under $1000) for a couple years now and it really didn't take much to get used to it. I do have a deep desk, though, and it's wall mounted behind it - if you don't have 30 or so inches from the wall to your face, I would not go bigger than 48".
With the new LG BX and CX OLEDs coming soon and their gaming-centric features, I wouldn't hesitate to get one if you are looking for a big format monitor. That 48" CX is pretty much the perfect balance of size, features, and picture quality - there's nothing that compares to an OLED monitor, especially on games that support HDR well. The only issue with OLED is screen burn, and while it is definitely a real thing, after 2 years of daily use I don't have any permanent burn yet, despite having seen lots of temporary burn (once my PC got stuck on a BSOD for several hours, and it took close to two weeks for that damned QR code burn-in to disappear). To minimize burn risk I make sure my brightness is as low as is comfortable, I use a uniform black desktop and task bar, and make sure power saving turns the TV off so it can do its pixel refresh as often as possible.

@illrigger
sorry but there is no "burn in" on oleds. they aren't burning gas like plasmas.
its image retention, coming from degradation (blue goes out first) which then shows more of the other colors (green/red)
so lower brightness will only have limit effect, its not having white/no static images on the screen, that will help much more.
and doing a screen fresh more than once or twice per year will even make it worse.
either go with what the tvs timer (sonys give notification based on running hours) or what the manufacturer recommends.
