HD resolution is not bad. 1440 is sexy and all, but people who want stable frames still have to stick with HD monitors.
I just wish there were cheaper HD monitors with 144hz panels.

This is pretty much a CS:GO monitor, as that's the only popular game where you can get 200FPS as a minimum (it runs with 300+ FPS here.)
So yeah. If you play CS:GO a lot, this makes sense.
And I still prefer 1080p because of the ****ty upscaling of the GPUs that make everything blurry if you use a non-native resolution. 1080p on a 4K monitor, or 720p on a 1440p monitor should look super sharp, but it doesn't, since the upscaling implementation of both nvidia and amd is just plain idiotic. If they don't fix that, 1080p will be the way to go for years to come. Unless you want a blurry image, or stutter, or having to lower your graphics. I don't want any of that, so 1080p is king.

Where the hell is that 4k 144hz monitor Asus showed at computex? That's the only one that would make me upgrade.

Who cares about a few extra Hz, and 1080 tn!? Really should be putting their resources into developing 4K 120hz... Esp. So with cards like 1080ti and beyond around the corner. You'd think they would see the dollar signs... First to produce such a monitor= $$$$$$$$...

A lot of people in this thread that don't understand the basics of gaming and gaming hardware. 180Hz does not "require" 180fps, and 120Hz is not something your eyes cannot perceive (this bs needs to stop). A 180Hz monitor means your refreshes the image 180 times a second, and that means you'll get less time spent between the latest rendered frame and what is shown on your screen (less input-lag). This is very important in games like CS:GO where every ms counts. Everything above 120Hz is infinitely better than 60Hz even for desktop use.

Old wives tales die hard. I can recall for many years the battle cry on the forums was, "The human eye cannot see more than 60 fps." During this time frame, a local church was selling off all of their Sony FWB-900 24in CRT monitors. I stopped by, saw the gold mine, and bought all 20 of them. Sold them for $300 each on ebay, because the human eye can interpret many factors beyond 60 fps, and real competitive gamers know this.
Certainly the difference between 120hz and 144hz is noticeable(yes, I have tested it) in a gaming environment where your field of view is changing quickly. I this scenario, refresh rate has a much more dramatic impact than resolution, anti aliasing, etc. Detail is lost, but liquid smooth frame rates remain the most visible. As you move towards very slow moving games or desktop browsing, frame rates are not as discernible, yet resolution and other detail settings are a higher priority.

you guys need 180 fps for 180 hz..IF u getting only max to max 60 fps then no need to buy this monitor.

I'm just sitting over here with my Qnix 2414 144hz monitor overclocked to 182HZ. Unfortunately no lightboost, but still much better than 60hz. Honestly https://cen.acs.org/articles/94/i28/rise-OLED-displays.html A couple more hurdles left for OLED. We sure could use some LCD Quantum Dot gaming monitors now though couldn't we?

Well, this monitor is obviously made for twitch shooters such as csgo, tf2, the upcoming quake and such. Back in the day a lot of people used to run their CRTs at 800x600@160Hz.
However, there has been a 24" 1080p korean monitor called QNIX/X-Star that uses a benq panel and runs at 180Hz just fine. It costs 150usd so I see no reason to pay a premium price for branding and slick design. On top of it its latency should be even lower as it doesn't have a scaler or OSD. The only drawback is the lack of g-sync.
edit: oops just noticed the post above /facepalm
