Always interesting when ppl fuss over a GPUs color, looks. Couldnt care what it looks like. Its in a case under my desk, not in some glass enclosure in the living room where visitors can marvel over it. o_O

I think this is a great card, considering it`s main goal of being silent while offering great performance, and i even like the style of it but in the end all this is not worth a premium bigger than 150€... Great review!

For this card you are paying the Asus tax , Noctua tax + Jensen high pricing non-sense 😏, $1,350 US Dollars is way too much money for rtx 4080 😱, with a bit more you can get a full rtx 4090 at BesBuy for $1599US dollars.:p
I agree, basically we are being gangbanged by Nvidia, Asus and Noctua at the same time!... 😱:(

This... also, even with glass case, you see the side of the card, not the colors of the fans, so who cares. For me, its about the function. I also have glass case, glass is facing the wall, and the case is under the desk.

The only thing I like and wondered all these past years since video cards are of considerable size: Why not use standard fans 80/92/120+ on video cards? Should be cheaper and easier to replace by user, also improve cooling. And by no means Noctua are the best fans out there, they're arguably best quality but not best performance (I have about 18 different fans in my arsenal to confirm, including Noctua series)
I also wondered why standard fans weren't used on GPU as far back as my ATI X850 XT. Probably why I strapped an 80mm fan to it back in the day! It has always been odd to me with my 980 Ti, 1080 Ti, 2080 Ti and now 3090 that we get these massive heatsinks of thick copper and dozens of aluminum fins........... then they strap these super thin fans on them. o_O I got WAY better temps and noise on my MSI 2080 Ti X Trio after de-shrouding and carefully attaching 92mm/120mm/120mm Noctua fans with the standard 25mm thickness. Now I'm intrigued by the thought of using 30mm or thicker fans. 🙄 The only reason I haven't torn my 3090 apart is because it is an EVGA so I'm waiting until the warranty is over. For now it gets fed tons of extra air from a custom 3D printed PCI slot 2x120mm/140mm bracket. - on topic - While I like the fact that *somebody* is finally using normal fans on a GPU, when you take into account the colors/price/size the market is like a niche of a niche.

Ugly as hell.

Pay extra $ for quiet fans only to hear more coil whine..

The fans are recessed so you wouldn't even see them unless you have the card mounted vertically and have a glass side panel. Anyways, I've liked Noctua as the D14 & D15 served me well over the years until recently with the 13900K. The thing runs way too hot for air-cooling.

GPU designed for performance and low noise. People complain about the looks 🙄 People complain about the color of the fans which face down and you can't see 🙄 I have Noctua fan cable tied in to keep my RAM cool. It's virtually silent, my RAM really likes it and hasn't complained about the color. If my RAM is happy, I'm happy! http://www.1qaz2wsx.co.uk/images/P1030568.jpg

I usually don't care about how PC parts looks, but damn this is ugly lol Its silent, so you can hear better that ''cool coil whine'' :P

Hilbert, you really need to update this section of your conclusion/final thoughts page template: " Additionally, the new power connector may raise concerns as bending the cable too close to the connector, combined with poor quality, can lead to hazardous situations. To avoid this, it is recommended to bend the cable 3-4cm above the connector level. Despite these concerns, all cards tested to date have been checked with FLIR imaging, and no issues have been observed on our side." It has been proven that the most likely cause for the hazardous situations with the 12VHPWR connector are related to not plugging in the cable correctly. Of course if you combine this with bending the cable close to the connector, it will undoubtedly make things even worse, but the bending in itself is not the cause.

@Hilbert Hagedoorn I see a lot of inconsistency in Forza 5 fps for example. Out of a sudden all the 4080 models achieve 13% more fps, other cards such as XTX show 0 improvement and 4090 also little to nothing gain. Reason?

Nvidia improved d3d12 performance with 522, hilbert might be using existing results from an older driver for the 4090

So true, AIBs are working harder and harder so they can provide almost silent GPUs and then the cards have horrible coil whine! And to make things even worse and more silly, those "silent" cards make the coil whine even more noticeable!!! 😡 I already returned a card because of this issue... Isn`t there an easy factory fix for this problem? For me, this is the biggest problem with GPUs nowadays, even worse than the silly prices!...:(

So it has the same coil whine as the other ASUS cards? Ugh.
Yep, Asus is a brand to avoid if you don't want coil whine.

if you are brave enough just buy a 4090 and custom water cool it with alphacool or another brand (ekwb started making 2cm longer blocks "for looks" that black block at the end is empty and completely un-necessary which is stupid so I gave up on them) losing 26% for almost the same price is insane and as usual if you can spend 1600$ in a gpu you can spend 2k+ or you're buying way above your league edit : who wants a 33cm gpu when it can be 20cm ? the FE and reference designb block from alphacool is 20cm long 😱 5cm less than a gtx 1060 it's tiny ! this is for a 350w 4090 tough if you want more it'll be the usual 30+cm

Why a 20cm GPU when you can have a 36cm one without a leak?

In a sane world, that card would cost exactly half what it does. It should cost half what it does.
