So we went from the 3090 being a ludicrously priced product with no value argument except for people wanting to flex to 3090 not being ludicrous enough. As an owner of one which I bought cause it was the only one even close to a "reasonable" price this news does not bode well for the next generation of GPUs. Especially considering last time I checked the profitability of mining in the current day is positive only in areas where energy pricing is abnormally low.

nVidia checking how much we're willing to pay for a GPU. This will be used as a KPI later, I'm sure.

So people will be buying it mid April, and the next gen coming out Q3? You'd have to be be pretty impatient not to wait? I would think people who like having the most expensive already have the 3090. You can shout about it on forums though and be hero for the day.

Ha ha ha, All these comments are the same as when every other generation of card has come out 😀

So another version is going to be released a year an a half after 30 series release and a few months before the 40series. Some poor suckers will put out top dollar not knowing their card will very shortly be yesterdays news.

Not poor suckers. Extremely wealthy ones.

seeing the leaks from the hackers I wouldn't buy a 3090ti the leaked 102 die has what +60-80% cores and whatnot ? crazy I hope they wake up and start making real psus in the meantime because the ones we saw have the pcie5 600w connector..fine but nothing else on them as they removed power plugs to redirect the power to the gpu connector you think I have the money for a 3090 or 4090 and am running 1-2 drives pre-built style and 4 fans connected directly on the motherboard ? good job on knowing your target audience 🙄

Youre joking right? You dont need to be extremely wealthy to spit out $2k every 2 years. I understand if you dont want to, but "wealth" has nothing to do with this.

And some months later we get RDNA3 and Ada Lovelace. Anyone with half a brain, should just save the money and wait a bit. Even if you are filthy rich.

Yes it does. If you're willing to spend $2k on a frivolous device, you're wealthy. Most people on a budget can't justify such an expense. If this was something people actually need, then yeah, wealth isn't as much of a factor here.

the people who will be buying this are not gamers (per se). they are the same type of people who buy the new luxury car when it hits the market, despite the clearance sales on the current models. just as those people might like luxury cars, but they're not driving enthusiasts. yeah, i know... "generalize much?"...

Why every 2 years? I'm still using a GTX 1070 which i bought 8 years ago.

They might have already paid more for their 3090 to begin with, less than two years ago. Then they will pay 3k (or more!) for this 3090 Ti. Maybe half a year later they will pay 3k again (I imagine) for the 4090. Of course they might recover even a thousand bucks, or more if their speechcraft is high enough, by selling the barely used 3090 Ti in the secondhand market. That's how I see it. 3090 (Ti) is in the segment where you pay for diminishing returns, so it's technically meant for wealthier folks, who always have the best and latest in the market.

Same here, not being a gamer, my EVGA GTX 1070 FTW has served me well, purchased around 2015 or so.:) Runs my 28" LG IPS 4K monitor with HDR fine via the DP connection. This freed up the twin HDMI 2.0 ports for a Roku Ultra & Amazon 4K Fire Stick. If anything, I'd like to upgrade my monitor to take advantage of DP 1.4 speed. Currently running at 5.4 Gbps x4 lanes (DP 1.2 spec), the 1070 is capable of 8.1 Gbps x4. At the time there wasn't many DP 1.4 monitors to choose from & reviews very mixed. This will benefit me more than an overpriced GPU. That is, until AMD releases their AM5 MB's, hopefully with DP 2.0, much faster than HDMI 2.1. Which is why I've not taken the plunge for the monitor. Pricing will be high at first for the platform, but there'll be promos after the dust settles. 😎 Cat

Making over 25k a year doesnt make one wealthy. People budget for a lot of things, including luxury items. Spending 1k a year on dining out doesnt make me wealthy either.

Huh? In much of the western world, $25k is poverty for a family of 4. It would be asinine to spend 8% of your annual income on a friggin GPU. For people on such an income, dining out to a place that isn't McDonald's is a luxury.

Of course, so now please tell me where the line for wealthy enough to buy a $2k GPU lies? What income level?

Wealthiness is relative. The simple way to look at it is whether you can buy such a thing and not worry about whether your bills can be paid on time. Or in another perspective: if your net income for a month's pay (after all other bills are paid for) is enough to buy this GPU, you are wealthy enough.
