Technology is supposed to be more efficient, better and more affordable with each iteration. This goes against the grain.

My guess is the manufacturer's unanimously decided they needed more money because of reasons.

Damn, got a 2TB NVMe last December and the same model already went up by about 40-50% in price at local stores since then. Seems I got it just in the nick of time.

Not when dealing with cartels.

Snatching my lexar 790 4tb for 209 euros seems like I did it on the best possible moment! It is already up to 250 euros and the 209 was the lowest price to date !

Well, they can expect a big dip in sales as a direct reaction to their greed.

That logic didn't hold up for graphics cards.

May last year was the ultimate moment to buy storage. I'm sorted for the coming 10 years.

didnt they all say there "reducing" production few months ago to "keep" price high? now there saying demand is to much? atlest that how i read that. so instead ramping up production there which they can do cause most reduced production to keep high there gona raise price? guess i should bought SP Xs70 2tb with HS when it was 79$ That ok i am in no rush to be parted from my money for new pc parts.

Anything profit-driven will not be superbly cheap. The oil market works the same way, in 2020 the world saw the biggest cut in oil production by 10%

TrendForce attributes changes in production capacity utilization rates by major manufacturers such as Kioxia and Western Digital (WDC) as key influences on market pricing, noting that other significant players have adopted more cautious production approaches. While client SSD users are facing steep price increases, the situation is even more challenging for enterprise SSD purchasers. TrendForce's analysis suggests that enterprise SSDs could see price hikes of 20-25% in Q2 2024, driven by strong demand from communication service providers in the US and China, unmet needs for high-capacity products, and anticipatory inventory building among some sectors.
So prices increase because manufacturers chose to... not manufacture as much. Self fulfilling profecies... or actually market manipulation? Also, I wonder how much "anticipatory inventory building" they will do when prices rise... or they rise because they build up more in fear of rising prices? Circling logic is the sign of BSery, I'd say 😀 As always, news like this are a weird read. And honestly, I just read the news article to know if it's JPR's uncanny knowledge at work here...

Wouldn't want one anyways with the active cooling requirement. Gen4 will serve us just fine for many years to come.

Yep. I've got Gen4 and Gen3 SSDs on a Gen3 mobo and dont care for faster nor the heat problems.

No point in buying one right now, they are garbage, just like DeeGee already said.

I only use SSD's for games that suffer from texture pop. A little more fly load speed and a little closer to the metal sometimes can help with this issue and elevate the sting of slow pop that you can get with a spinner.

I bought a couple 2tb Nvme about a year ago due to the same rumour going on now that prices will increase. They didnt.
